Re: Softimage 2012 Experiences

I have never seen Softimage not use 100% of the CPU cores during rendering, except in calculating Irradiance Particles. Used to be that calculating IP final pass would only use one of my 4 cores, but even that's using 100% now. And the same goes with FG/GI - 100% from start to finish. I haven't done...

Re: Softimage 2012 SP 1 released

To be fair, the Send To from Mudbox to Softimage works great if you do it carefully. By "carefully" I mean if you are doing anything that involves textures, you *must* use an OBJ file first imported into Mudbox and *never* use an FBX file exported from Softimage. That goes both for manuall...

Re: Softimage 2012 SP 1 released

That looks terrible! And I thought *I* had problems. ;)

Yeah I guess you're right. I totally forgot that we're not supposed to be actually using Softimage on its own, but rather as an ICE exporter for Maya.
WHAT was I thinking? ;)

Re: Softimage 2012 SP 1 released

I think there´s more than one issue with the "send to" function and it possibly needs a bit more work, but for most of them there are workarounds, so maybe it wasn´t highest priority. Rendering was most important, so I´m glad they didn´t wait. Achim You're probably right about that but at...

Re: Softimage 2012 SP 1 released

It would be nice if the "known issues" list were to be included in the release pdf as well... Agreed But now is not a time for nit-picking (nit-picking starts early tomorrow morning :D ) Well done, Softimage :ymparty: Well I'm going to start early if you don't mind. :D I had two major iss...

Re: Experiences with Quadro 2000?

Wow, what a scary thread. I can't afford to buy a Quadro for each of my machines. I'm glad I bought a GTX 460. Unless I'm reading it wrong, the alleged "crippling" only applies to the 480's and up. My 460 does fine with Softimage and Maya and Mudbox, btw, just as good as my GTX 285 did, ex...

Re: Why S key?

I love the S key for navigation - so comfortable! I have to use Maya from time to time and I use Mudbox too, but I do get used to switching back and forth and having to use the Alt key. I also bought the Z Switcher for Z Brush that makes for a Maya-like navigation in Z Brush, using the Alt key inste...

Re: Does it make sense to buy a Quadro or FirePro GPU?

I'm convinced that companies like Autodesk and Adobe get *something* for recommending and even implying you need "pro" graphics cards, and I think it's one of the biggest myths in all of the 3D world. I recently bought a GTX 460 with 2 GB of RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?...

Re: Softimage 2012 Experiences

Probably because Softimage wants to make sure, they actually fixed the problem and for that feedback from testers can be helpful. Luc-Eric's original statement concerning the ETA for the fix was probably too optimistic. It could well be they ran into some additional stuff they wanted to fix before ...

Re: Softimage 2012 Experiences

Regarding this statement: worse case one month. The team is really waiting for more feedback on the product before sending a service pack. That statement was made by luceric on April 18 on the Area forum. Okay, it's been well over a month now, but I know how these things can go and I'm not whining a...
