Gear_mc synoptic error
Hi When I create a default rig using Gear, and then open it's synoptic, I always get the error below, sometimes I am able to view the synoptic and other times it opens an empty synoptic ppg. Can anyone help with why this might happen, and if I can fix it: gear_OpenSynoptic ' ERROR : invalid syntax -...

Re: Help with rigging a shoulder bag to a body
Ok, I froze the bag mesh completely, then re-imported the envelope, which I had saved via Gear, and it seems to have fixed whatever corruption there had been before. I hope

Re: Help with rigging a shoulder bag to a body
Hi all :(( So I rigged up the bag. The quick explanation is: - envelope a curve to the body. - constrain a cylinder to the curve - pose constrain nulls to the segments of the cylinder - parent a second set of nulls to the first, to give a second level of control - envelope the bag to the second set ...

Re: Help with rigging a shoulder bag to a body
Thanks Jho. I had just started a very similar test, with the curve skinned to the body, but then deforming a long thin cylinder to the curve. Make clusters with centres along the cylinder, and I could constrain the bag to those clusters (similar to placing of nulls along the curve as you suggest). T...

Help with rigging a shoulder bag to a body
Hi. I have a character that has a small over shoulder bag with a long strap. The bag hangs at his right hip, and the strap goes across his chest and back, over his left shoulder. Is there a way to rig it up to be able to have the strap deform as his body deforms, but if he leans forward or back or j...

Re: Lightwave offer
As a long time LW user, I think many of us switched to Softimage due to the wealth of character tools, rigging flexibility and ease, skinning to almost anything, multitude of deformation options, simplicity to correct deformations on the fly during animation, synoptic, non linear editing, etc, befor...

Re: 3d geometry disappear randomly
No these have all been pretty standard, low res, toon type enveloped characters. I've tried everything. A full freeze (useless) and the extract poly worked, but not much else.

3d geometry disappear randomly
Hi I've had this issue in both 2013 and 2014, with totally different characters and objects. I'll be animating and then in certain view ports some parts of my character might start to disappear as I move, rotate or zoom the camera and/or controls. It has the appearance of a clipping issue but it is ...

Re: New Gear backwards compatibility question
I have done just that. The rigs which I'd rigged up in Gear originally seem to work fine for the most part in Gear_mc. Some issues have been: - The shape tools which I love, don't work anymore for me (on both computers we have tried it). - syntax error message when I open up the synoptic, but still ...

Re: GEAR: dog rig rear leg issue
Still sitting with this issue, if anyone might be able to 'shed' some light on it ;) I'm now on some reptilian back legs, with the same issue as the dog. Instead of the foot not moving past it's full reach and the toes simply pointing as they should, it stretches away with the controller. I know I c...

Rigging a frill-necked lizard
Hi I'm rigging a frill-necked lizard type creature. The frill has to be able to tuck back against the neck, and then splay out when needed. It didn't seem too complicated but then I realized that when the frill is tucked against the neck, it should follow the movements of the neck so ideally be skin...

Custom GEAR rigs and the synoptic?
Hi guys Has anyone had any experience creating a custom GEAR synoptic for a creature using the various GEAR modules but not the preset guides? I've never created any synoptic before so its all foreign to me. Or do you simply use the on screen controls, and forego the various convenient selection opt...

Thanks for the advice. No I never figured out my issue, so have been animating as best as I can with the rig as is.

Re: FCurve Editor annoying - keeps deselecting when scrubbing
Chaos Group responded to my query on their forum, and the latest update 1.6.11 fixes the issue as long as you don't have V-Ray proxies in your scene, which I don't. Good news

Re: FCurve Editor annoying - keeps deselecting when scrubbing
I see my colleague has the same issue. I've tried the whole process on her pc, but as soon as V-Ray is placed back in her addon folder, the fcurve issue begins, so I don't know how to resolve the issue on her machine, and don't know why its fixed on mine.

Re: FCurve Editor annoying - keeps deselecting when scrubbing
Ok I reset my user account, and it worked fine. I copied all my plugins back and it started again. I removed my plugins one by one and it turned out that when V-Ray was removed, the behaviour returned to normal. I then renamed the whole new user account from .bak to the original and got rid of the n...
