You can always ask the NSA, they should have it covered ;-)

Re: Autodesk retires Softimage

I'm not so sure, Max is one of Autodesk’s top products, so there are no plans to discontinue it. If you look, it's in every one of the Suites that Autodesk offers. Though I've never been a big user of Max, it's always had this broad appeal across different industries and that's likely to continue. ...

Re: Autodesk retires Softimage

There are two kinds of companies in the world. One kind tries to do all they can to help customers do their work. If a hard decision has to be made, they make every effort to ease the pain as much as possible. It would cost such a company nothing to set Softimage free for existing customers, allow t...

Amen to that ;-)

Re: What if Softimage died?

Like you I have tried so hard to get used to the light wave Modeller because what comes after is great. Good to hear they are starting to make a serious play again. On the Modo front a lot of your frustrations have been fixed in 701 (as of the sp3). That being said for people who need the history n...

Re: What if Softimage died?

Out of curiosity what would be LightWaves modeler problem? Well, several things. - No History of any kind - a pure one-shot polygon modeller, so no extruding a spline and then modifying the spline. - Bad Splines (LWCAD helps there as in many other areas). - Totally non-connected tools. Literally hu...

Re: What if Softimage died?

Hi Thomas, what do you use mainly now? Depends on the job really. Last year I did a huge still for an exhibition - 20432 x 14526 pixels - that worked great in Lightwaves own renderer. Modelling in XSI, MoI and LW Modeller/LWCad. DOF in AE/Frischluft. Post in Lightroom. http://www.design4audio.de/ho...

Re: What if Softimage died?

I'm not going to delude myself. I need to move on eventually, and I've been using Modo quite a bit for the last 3 years, and I even want to go back to my roots -- Lightwave. But I can easily go another 4 years with Softimage. Not the worst idea really. Lighwave is getting pretty good once more. Whi...

Re: What if Softimage died?

We basically knew this at day one after the acquisition deep down in our guts. I was physically sick back then for weeks. It took me years to let go. Thankfully I did. Now I can only laugh at the mountains of BS the corporate mouths told us all those years - which nobody really believed, but man did...

Re: Arion LIVE about to be released

I would advice a lot of caution towards this company. I bought Fryrender back in the time when it was in beta and these guys are really bad mojo. In principle, the renderer is/was very good. But they broke too many promises, didn't update the normal XSI plugin for years, removed very helpful feature...

Re: My Wishlist for Softimage... maybe 2013 ?

Thanks Tekano, but that's what I tried first... Those 40 crashes were all sorts of iterations through different combinations of settings. And this scenario is just one of many I encountered. It is my impression that XSI is no longer a stable workhorse for a freelancer - at least not for me. If it's ...

Re: My Wishlist for Softimage... maybe 2050 ?

Well, "Silver Support" would be my main recommendation for 2013. I'm no longer on Subscription and don't plan to renew it in the grace period if nothing is done about that. Like many other freelancers, "Gold Support" is close to irrelevant to me, my jobs are usually very short an...

Re: Price change imminent?

IMHO this is the perfect time for someone (Like SideFX) to swoop in with a "3Democracy" type program and offer cross-grades to everyone who's pissed off. I'd consider looking at Houdini, but right now it's not reasonably priced compared to other apps. Paul Here you go: http://www.sidefx.c...

Re: Price change imminent?

I guess what we see ATM is an enlarging of a gap we got used to getting smaller. When I started with 3D, softimage3d was completely out of reach. Even before the 3Democracy campaign it was still pretty steep. Then we had many years of relatively affordable access to this high profile software. And n...
