Re: migrating to Houdini and loving it!
For those who like a bit longer reading, here is one of really, really rare Maya to Houdini comparisons, offering a lot of facts, instead of somehow typical 'love it because I hate something else'. Of course from, perhaps only consistently existent point of view, of big facility, without even consi...

Re: migrating to Houdini and loving it!
The only 'problem' is that Houdini takes a lot more learning time to get productive again, compared to other 3D applications that more or less follow the same 'workflow'. Switching from Softimage<>Maya<>3DSMax<>C4D<>LW isn't a huge step outside the comfort zone, but Houdini will take some time to g...

Re: migrating to Houdini and loving it!
Thanks for feedback , if i can ask if you were/are a C4D user how you ended up here? If you mean why am I in a Softimage group about Houdini? Long story short: I used to work on Softimage (back since the days of XSI) and fell in love with ICE instantly, move to C4D (office choice, not mine) and now...

migrating to Houdini and loving it!
:x loving it so far :x Superfluous post I know. But since professionally I have been working on Cinema 4d for the last couple of years and felt I should try something else I decided, after reading from many of you guys, to give it a go at Houdini to maybe use it for work outside the office, and ohhh...

Re: controlling the percentage of "randomize by range" ?
go inside the randomize value by range compound and find the random value node. There you can change the Distribution Type to profile curve....which will give perfect control on what you want..... I hope this solve your problem.

Re: Maya Mash a Mograph for Maya
Thanks for the idea for a spring system. But my point was that pretty much everything in the examples can be done with ICE out of the box without any TD knowledge. As for the nomenclature, or language as it was mentioned here, the reality is that ICE not only is great but set a new standard for this...

Re: Maya Mash a Mograph for Maya
I think pretty much everything i saw in the examples can be done with ICE out of the box. And rather simply. Except maybe for the spring animation system, that is something it has eluded me for quite sometime.

Re: a little witch
Hi Guys! A quick update.... In my strugle to find an efficient solution to rigging in softimage (remember guys I make this project to learn new stuff in general). I found a quite famous solution: Gear. Amazing tool! absolutely fantastic. I mixed the final rig with a half simulated dress. basic the t...

a little witch
Hello everyone, A continuation on my previous post to update my progress on this project. Basically I completed the texturing and modeling of Lilya, a little witch I hope soon will be able to place in a more interesting environment. My next step is to create a still frame depicting her world. LilyaF...

Re: fast skin and final gather problem BIG problem.
Matheus: you are an angel! O:-) indeed the raytype switcher made the trick. I basically connect my previous solution to all the ports except final gather and then give a solid color 50% grey to Final Gather. I know that is fruitless to complain about mental ray on the subject, particularly since it ...

Re: fast skin and final gather problem BIG problem.
Hi Kerro Perro, Any answer is helpful, so thanks for the explanation. However I doubt that is an internal bug unless all the other material nodes, including mi phenomena nodes also have the same bug. For the moment I can confirm that the problem happens when using transparency in the scene. Once I h...

fast skin and final gather problem BIG problem.

Re: need advise for night rendering
I will offer an alternative solution that may work for you (or not) use at your own discretion. If you find hard to create a night scene that is naturalistic, try creating a day light scene with soft or very little shadows and then start toning it towards a blue hue, or better yet just do it in post...

Re: do you know how to develop wave generator like this?
Allow me to disagree to certain degree with the previous posts, and give you a couple of recommendation you may find usefull. From what you mention you seem to be relatively new to scripting and ice so I will write having that in mind. Effectively, as was previously mentioned, the author claims that...
