Re: Smoke - Cache particles? emFluids
Hello Guys, now another question popped out. For rendering the fluids I'm chosing emFluid5 Renderer. But for making a shadow pass I can't get the shadow receiver rendered. And if I switch to another renderer (mental ray, redshift) the fluids are only sweet little blocks and quite... edgy. Is there a...

Re: Smoke - Cache particles? emFluids
Hi Oli, sorry, I didn't understand the last part. How and why would I create a string? Sorry, I only touched the surface of ICE and I'm not able to do any scripting. Never worked with VDBs. I'm happy that the .bafl files work now :-) And rendering I do with emFluid5 Renderer because I didn't manage ...

Re: Smoke - Cache particles? emFluids
Dear Oli, I might have found the solution. By coincidence I found the TimeWarp Basic operator. I can plug it into the icetree directly without any other core, grid or other nodes. I can browse the path of the sim cache, set mode to Use Custom Frame and put an animation on it. This way I could also d...

Re: Smoke - Cache particles? emFluids
Dear Oli, you are my hero! I now set up a model including both the simulation and the point cloud which loads the cache. I also exposed the node "Active" of the sim so I can turn that off easier. Only thing I can't find now is: How can I offset the loaded cache? So if I want the cache to s...

Re: Smoke - Cache particles? emFluids
Hi Oli, I tried to plug together the various operators. Unfortunately in the help files (I've downloaded all) there are just a few notes to each plug. Like "Enable = enables the operator". So I'm not always sure how to actually use them. I managed (by reading the error messages, the mouse-...

Re: Smoke - Cache particles? emFluids
Thanks, Oli, for the correction and tip with save and load grid. Unfortunately I can't find where to plug those operators in. Do I need to put those into the smoke basic compound somewhere? And after writing the cache, how / where would I disconnect the simulation? If you find a demo scene, that wou...

Re: Smoke - Cache particles? emFluids
Do you cache for example on playback and then lock cache? It seems to work ok for me.Cache files are saved on project, simulation folder Thank you so much for your answers! I've used the Cache on File node (Alembic Cache node didn't do anything (or I didn't know how to use it)). Yes, files are bein...

Hello friends, is anybody out there who still knows about Softimage / emFluids / Particles? I'm struggling with caching smoke simulations. I'm using Smoke Basic compound by Eric Mootz. I'd like to cache the smoke so I can reuse it without simulating it again. And then import this into a new scene mu...

emFluid - Controlling Smoke direction?
Hey guys, I'm quite new to emFluid and I'm struggling with some details. So far I've managed to tweak the smoke compound so I like the cloud. What I need (I've attached a screen shot) is a smoke element I can move around, rotate and (if possible) even scale to fit my scene. I'm using filmed and trac...

Re: ICE procedural modeling - BEVEL possible?
Hi Nnois, thanks for the tip. I played around with the thickness-compount and tried to extract the bevel part... but failed. I don't know ICE enough to succeed here. Best would be, to change the compound this way so you could input edges or arrays of edges or something (indices via string?)) and app...

ICE procedural modeling - BEVEL possible?
Hi friends, is it possible to do beveling commands in ICE-trees? I found "add edge" and "split edge" nodes (and extrude node) but couldn't figure out how to actually bevel an edge. Just for learning purpose today I've tried to set up an procedural door or window (frame) generator...

Re: belt drive (gears?) / rotation problem
TwinSnakes007, you're not missing anything, you've just got the right nodes built together! Thanks a lot! My problem was to extract all values out of a matrix first (Get Object.kine.global - then matrix to SRT). Then the rotation values were messed up from the beginning. What you did was to get the ...

Re: belt drive (gears?) / rotation problem
Thanks for your tip, Daniel! When I insert an Absolute Value, the small gear is ping-ponging back and forth. I noticed that "Matrix to SRT" is giving only positive values. Rotations are going from 0 to 180 and then BACK DOWN to 0! So there seems to be the problem. That's why it is eithe pi...
