Re: Autodesk CEO and President Carl Bass steps down
Maya 2017 is doing a great job of converting people away from Autodesk. What was released should have baked for about 3 more months at least in QA. Its buggy , slow and frustrating. especially when there are great things that you should be playing with, instead of restarting the program.

Re: Houdini 16
Well I would say that presentation was a pretty clear demonstration of the way Houdini is going and the kind of people SideFX are. They didn't say it outright but they have people like us Softies and others in their sights. They actually listened to what people need and they have generated a lot of...

Re: Intuos 3D (with ZBrushCore)
We are seriously looking at getting them for our Game Design / 3D animation students. Assuming we can get them in South Africa. Specialised bundles seem to always pass us by.

Re: Maya 2017 with Arnold
You can still get MR from the Nvidia site. I think you now need to purchase it though. I doubt Nvidia are going to pay it that much attention though. iRay will most likely be their main focus. It was a good move to include arnold, some of the integration done has made it really easy to get up to spe...

From What I can see GPU will win out in the end. Simply look at the increase in CPU speed vs GPU Cuda cores

Re: Fusion 8
I have only done fairly basic stuff. (ie import ford gb40 and render ), but yes it is actually one of its big strengths.

Re: Educational License for Softimage 2015 free?
We have licences on or flexlm server that will last until mid 2017. However that being said even though we have the licences, we are legally not allowed to teach EOL software. That whats made the EOL announcement so devastating for us. If they had said end of development that would have allowed us t...
Re: Fusion 8
Have been using fusion since the first mac Beta and have to say I am very enthused about it. Reminds me a lot of shake. Its missing a few bells , but nothing that my students will ever touch, so its a very big win for us.

And that is the problem !luceric wrote:ok that's true, there is market for GPU rendering; otoy is in it, as well other providers, some providing iray.
but I don't think Autodesk gets out of bed unless there are miliions of dollars to make selling services to studios.

Re: Autodesk acquires Solid Angle
I'm sure redshift is awesome for you on your peecee, but it's not relevant to what's happened as there is no market for it or other GPU-based renderers for cloud rendering. You want something that people want to render on big farms of cpus. Well moving past insulting most people on the forum , you ...
