I like XSI...

Maya Modelling
So, I'm finally making an active move to Maya. I'm comfortable with it, my college taught it 10 years ago and I've had the odd job here or there, I'd just like to reach a similar level of proficiency to XSI. I'm trying to get my modelling up to scratch so I'd like to run some of my thoughts by some ...

Re: Arnold Standin and ICE "talking"
Bit of an old thread but maybe it still needs an answer. Could you apply your material to the Standin proxy to override the material on the .ass file? That should work, unless you have multiple materials on a single .ass export. Then obviously it's just a case of hooking your material up to the ICE ...

Re: This is my personal migration software ;)
I like the Softimage 2015 icons and splash screen from Autodesk, actually ;) what do the replacement look like? I don't want to run an arbitrary .exe ... If you use Resource Hacker you can replace the bitmaps manually. I used RH for the first time after it was mentioned in this thread and it was re...

Re: Fabric Engine - Paul Smith Tutorial
This was really cool, I'm glad to see somebody learning from scratch since that would be me too :) Personally, I'm trying to wrap my head around Houdini since I know more place that have that in the pipeline already. It was cool to see GetPointPosition and SetPointPosition exist. It was scary to see...

Re: SI licences etc.
Am I correct in understanding that second hand licenses are not an option? I've always thought that Autodesk's policy was that as you buy a license it's non-transferable.
Would it be an option to establish a database of licenses so that people can subcontract or something?

Re: The road to Maya (yes, Maya)?
Very helpful. Thanks. Now do you perhaps have any suggestions how I can get rid of this bitter taste in my mouth? :p Yeah, that's the worst bit for me. I learned Max and Maya at college and my first job was in Lightwave so since then I've tried to maintain a flexible attitude to software. The thing...

Re: The road to Maya (yes, Maya)?
I'm originally a Maya guy and I made the transition to Softimage easily enough and at the moment I work in Maya again. I think you'll be fine, except that you'll be pressing 's' and keying things you don't want to for a long time :) If I were to recommend anything, I'd say the Art of Rigging. It's p...

Re: Khumba Plants
Hello guys, thanks for the interest, I'm Arcticwolf on CGTalk, but WolfSpinach is my more recently adopted handle. This project represented my first use of ICE to any significant degree, so some of the methods weren't ideal, but live and learn. The basic method is quite simple - create an emission s...
