Re: mesh paint
Gotta chime in to. This would mean one less thing that I need Modo for. It has a mesh paint that I use all the time to put rivets (mostly) on the skin of planes that I've built. I normally put all of them on a separate layer that can be toggled on and off depending on the shot. Its been a life saver...

I like where you're going with it. The canopy off the 109 is a nice touch of detail.

Re: New Spitfire WIP
Thanks for the fantastic offer! The Mark XVI (strangely enough) was a Merlin powered version so the engine cowling is quite different and this one didn't have the clipped wings (although some did). It's a very nice model so I would like to use it somehow in a future project if that's alright. I'll ...

Re: New Spitfire WIP
I have a nice high poly Mk XIV that might be easier to convert into an XVI. Its a clip wing and griffon powered so it has the cowl bumps and 5 bladed prop. http://www.rendersworld.com/download/FinalTest000.jpg http://www.rendersworld.com/download/FinalTest001.jpg http://www.rendersworld.com/download...

Re: Lightwave 9.6 scenes to Softimage
With you Werner its not likely but.. check for 2 point polys in the models. That will make XSI bail on you every time. fbx through lw10 works much better as noted. I also use Deep Exploration sometimes to export to other formats including .fbx and haven't had much trouble.

Re: "Autodesk shifts design apps to the cloud"
This news reminded me of The Cloud™ technology. "Microsoft is using it, Sony is using it, Apple is using it, now you can use it too!" :D I'm sure AD will leave local versions of the software as is and in addition to them will provide cloud ones That isn't the way I read it. They want to p...

Map Re-use quesiton
Coming from a Lightwave background, I have a load of lightwave models that I would like to bring over to SI. Getting them into SI so far hasn't been a problem and putting the maps that get lost back on hasn't either. Where I'm hitting a head scratcher is with the diffusion maps. Diffuse in SI is whe...

I despise they're subscription model. I bought thousands of $ worth of dvd's from them over the years and I still go back to them for a refresher now and then. I won't pay for a month just so I can look up a couple settings that I seldom use.

Re: Typhoons in Action - Hello from new SI user.
Wow.. That is an impressive amount of aircraft in one scene. And I really wish that I could say that I loved it but there are a few tweeks that could make it so much better. Being an affection ado of all planes WWII its great to see a tiffy render but the formations of some of the planes are WAY to ...

Mechanical Rigging.
I've gone though all my DT tuts and everything that I can find online. Organic rigging is easy to find information on and XSI seems to be built for it. But what I've been asked to do is rig up a transformer/battlemech type of robot. And frankly, I don't have a clue where to start. I've done little t...
