Re: Mudbox at 10$/month
Mudbox looks fine at first glance, but once you actually try to work with it you quickly will struggle to achieve anything at all. It lacks totally basic tools and functionality and is buggy as hell. We actually tried using it on several projects but literally everyone gave up on it.

[*] Learn some basic MEL scripting, Maya is heavily build on this and sooner or later you will need some little scripts to automate your workflow. Python is good as well if you already know how to program in Python. If you are going to learn scripting learn Python. Please don't waste any time with ...

Re: Migration to maya/max = turn the other cheek
It's all going according to Autodesks plans - every cries out but in the end 90% of all people will still migrate to Maya. People already started to believe the bullshit "we are gonna make Maya so awesome you won't regret it" talk on the mailing list which will probably never happen. Autod...

Re: Anti-Autodesk Strategies
now explain all the effort being put in Bifrost! Considering Autodesk's track record Bifrost might just be a plugin bolted on top of Maya/Max for a single purpose (fluids in this case probably) and the left to rot forever, just like most of Maya's features which were added ever since Autodesk owned...

Re: 3d integration with After Effects
Seriously? No.
After Effects is awful for compositing tasks. It is sometimes needed for 2D and motion graphics stuff, but thats it.
That would be a horrible waste of time.

Have you worked with Maya before? The UI is a horrible mess when you are coming from Soft.

Re: What if Softimage died?
Considering how 2013 was announced as an awesome release with many big features I doubt we will be seeing anything big. Release cycles are way too fast and there are probably not enough developers on the team to bring any new big features.

Why would you need ICE for that? Just put a gobo on a spotlight and rotate it.

Re: Why is generating poitns single threaded ?
Actually on big meshes volume emission is a time killer. I had to scale down a scene to 100th of the original size recently to be able to work with volume emission at all.
