Re: Softimage Surface Pro ArtDock

Thanks. The actual dock can be made up of any images you want. Adding or subtracting buttons is a piece of cake. I haven't played with transparency, but that may be possible. Unfortunately, no one in the art community has managed to produce an ArtDock that's compatible with N-Trig devices. So for th...

Softimage Surface Pro ArtDock

Our favorite 3d application doesn't lend itself perfectly to running on a tablet and being controlled solely by pen and touch. For one thing, Softimage only runs in small fonts mode, so menus and touch targets can be tiny. But that didn't stop me from trying. http://static.squarespace.com/static/512...

Re: Softimage 2015 released

I've got an embarrassingly slow video card and progressive rendering in SI 2015's render preview is awesome. :-bd

Re: PluralSight Buys Digital-Tutors For $45 Million

Maybe this means they'll be able to afford to pay actual trained professionals to create their tutorials now. I agree some of the Digital Tutors work is poor, but I've found many training videos created by accomplished vfx professionals to be unwatchable. Sadly, most artists are not great communica...

Re: MODO webinar for Softimage Users - tomorrow, April 3

Hard to imagine any executives at Autodesk having that much intimate knowledge of any of their software tools, particularly Softimage.

Re: What to do now?

Yes, Autodesk's only concession (which they're offering to everyone) is a discounted subscription renewal price.

Re: What to do now?

So I've decided to fork over the cash (~$1000) for one more year of Ultimate subscription. That will get me access to the final release of Softimage (an absolute must to extend its useful life, right?) as well as all the incremental improvements to the rest of the AD suite. It kills me to think that...

Re: What about Softimaging Blender? SoftBlender?

I would support any effort to bring more of a Softimage "skin" to Blender's cryptic UI. I've tried at various times through the years to get my head around Blender's interaction model and I simply can't do it. But rather than just throw money at Blender.org, maybe it makes more sense for i...

Re: why not cinema 4d?

But at least they demonstrate that they're interested in our business, right? They aren't interested in our business. None of them. They are interested in making business with us , which is 99.99% a one way cash flow. As soon as there is a cadaver, there are vultures. To your point, Modo's Brad Pee...

Re: why not cinema 4d?

Maketing wise this might be a clever move (from their pov) to collect a few straying sheep, but it feels rather sad that they need to come to the funeral party and be "helpful". If there's a nice product, people will drop by eventually and take a look in their own time. You're right, that...

I agree and it's notable that Maxon is the only major 3d vendor who hasn't reached out to the SI community with some kind of a crossgrade offer.

Re: AD: new SI licensing rules!!!

Im not buying that crap again, and I dont meant Softimage, I menat the bullsh*t autodesk keeps feeding us. Fool me once I say! I feel the same way, but the rational part of my brain is reminding me that I still need occasional access to the other tools in the Suite. So spend $1000 now or potentiall...

Re: Autodesk retires Softimage

Here's the text of Maurice's post: Hi everyone, I have an update to the Softimage Transition Plan to share with you: When we created the initial Softimage transition plan our desire was to provide our customers with an easy, no-cost path to transition to either 3ds Max or Maya. We have been monitori...

I spoofed a MAC address at some point for an obsolete software product. It was a pain, but it worked.

AD: new SI licensing plans!!!

Maurice Patel just announced on the Softimage Mailing List that Autodesk has reversed its stance and will allow subscription customers to continue accessing their Softimage license indefiinitely after April 2016.
