Re: Autodesk retires Softimage

After reflecting on Autodesk's decision for a week, I've come to the conclusion that the real reason Autodesk is getting rid of Softimage is that they lack the ingenuity to improve the greatest 3D software they've ever acquired. Someone PLEASE show me one truly innovative thing that's been added to ...

Re: Matrix - What the Crazy Node is this ?

Personally I don't get matrix stuff either. I know that Mesh.kine.global returns a 4x4 matrix, but I don't get what each value represents. All I understand so far.. [1,0,0,0] :: sclX?,?, ?, ? [0,1,0,0] :: ?, sclY?, ?, ? [0,0,1,0] :: ?, ?, sclZ?, ? [0,0,0,1] :: posX, posY, posZ, ? But even there... t...

Working with and matching Orientation constraints

Hi all, I have an arrow-shaped null which I'm trying to orient to be along the axis between two animated objects' center-points. I've currently got it using the objects' kine.global.pos with the midpoint formula to stay between them, but have no clue what the math is for orientation. Any help would ...

Hanging strands?

Hey guys, I'm using this tutorial here: http://caffeineabuse.blogspot.com/2013/01/creating-strands-between-two-different.html to create strands between multiple points. How would I go about making a controllable amount of slack in the strands? I'm hoping to get something a bit like the 24-second mar...

Distributing a set of textures among points

Hey all, I have a particle emission using an instance shape, and I have 5 variations of the texture I want to distribute across the points, but have no idea how to go about it.. I was hoping I could use if/then nodes (with data attribute nodes) in the render tree, but they're only for the ICE tree.....

Looking for tutorials on creating nodes outside of XSI

Hi guys,

I was wondering if there are any good tutorials on creating new nodes using XML, Python, VBScript, etc.
Also, if there are any on how to access ICE Tree parameters from the script editor, it would be quite helpful!

Re: Texture maps from Projections or Procedurals?

Hey myara, thanks for the quick reply. I think you've slightly misunderstood, I was asking for how to do it in both cases: A) Camera Projection -> texture map (I think your solution works for this case, if I duplicated and unwrapped the duplicate) B) Procedural Texture -> texture map Would the same ...

Texture maps from Projections or Procedurals?

Hi all, I was wondering how to go about exporing/baking/stamping (not sure about the terminology) a camera projection or procedural shader into an a texture map/image in XSI.. (It'd be nice to get just the diffuse if possible, so I can use the texture in another shader or renderer) Not sure if it ma...

Compound management question

Hi all,
I've exported a few homemade compounds, and I was wondering if there's any simple way to have them listed in Tool tab under its own category...
Thanks in advance!
