Re: Rigging in Maya? (Advice)

Thanks guys! I have the first edition of "Stop Staring" which is a good book, and that one looks pretty nice too. I didn't know if anyone had the book "Rig it Right" and see how it was and if it had any "insider" knowledge. I think I read the author came from Dreamworks...

Rigging in Maya? (Advice)

Hello, I am looking for a book/tutorial that really shows how to rig well in Maya. I have seen some great rigs out there... and this, The second one is based on FACS and uses zero blendshapes. Anyone have a good boo...

Re: Buying Softimage updated

It is still a lot of money to spend. I really only took the "Maya with Softimage" route because I already bought Softimage when it was still owned by Avid, and I have been on Maintenance support ever since. So, the way I looked at it, is that I already had so much invested in Softimage (fr...

Re: Buying Softimage updated

That is a good point too. I was thinking you needed to go onto something, but if you really are not pressed, then keeping your Softimage 2014 and trying Blender would save you a ton of cash, and who knows what may happen in the future.

Re: Buying Softimage updated

Hi, I think you should talk to a reseller directly before you make a purchase. I now use Brian at Motion Media. I think you should just call up directly and speak to someone first. You might also want to create a "Support Ticket" at Autodesk Support in the licensing area and ask there. The...

Re: Buying Softimage updated

As Myara mentioned, if you already have Softimage 2014 there is not too much in Softimage 2015 that you are missing (I think it is only like 9 fixes or something like that.) I would also definitely listen to what Luceric is saying, as he works for AD and he steered me right as well, when the transit...

Re: Autodesk Desktop Application Question

Hello. Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I had a quick question I was hoping someone could help me with - Maya related with the Desktop App. When any of you installed Maya 2016 Extension 2 SP2 or Maya 2017 Update 1 , did the Desktop App find any of those for you, or did you have to go into your Au...

Re: Intuos 3D (with ZBrushCore)

Just an FYI, unless they changed it, their USB cables are usually extremely short (~4ft), so unless you are using a laptop, or have a monitor with inputs, you are most likely going to have to get the wireless kit.

Re: Softimage with Maya/Max 2017 "Transition" Question

Hi Daniel,

I had a quick question. Do you know by chance if there is going to be a "Maya with Softimage 2017" Physical Media available to get from Autodesk? Currently, only the 2016 is available. Thank you.

Re: Softimage with Maya/Max 2017 "Transition" Question

Happy to help and yes your summary is accurate. Since you're using a network license you'll notice that the line beginning with "PACKAGE" is the main string for the current release (e.g MAYAS_2017 if i remember correctly) and then you will see additional strings for 'previous versions' (e...

Re: Softimage with Maya/Max 2017 "Transition" Question

Hi Daniel, Thank you very much for the clarification. So, moving forward it would be: 1.) The "Maya 2017 with Softimage" License would be used to run Maya 2017. and 2.) The "Maya 2016 with Softimage" License would be used to run Softimage 2015 R2. and 3.) If we change professions...

Re: Softimage with Maya/Max 2017 "Transition" Question

Hey everyone, If you've successfully transitioned to a "Maya with Softimage" perpetual license and have stayed current on your maintenance subscription then that license entitlement will remain. If you were moved over to "Maya 2017" exclusively then that is an error on our backe...

Re: Maya 2017 OS's?

I didn't even think about the dual boot, that is a great idea. Ultimately, I just missed the Windows 10, as I saw there was a 30 day rollback period, but I figured I was going to keep Windows 8.1 for my Softimage license anyway, so I passed. Thanks for the dual boot idea. I'll have to remember that...

Re: Softimage with Maya/Max 2017 "Transition" Question

so tell me if my understanding of this is wrong, you get your new licenses for maya or the suite and you append them onto your licenses you have for previous last year "with softimage". From what I understood during my conversation with Autodesk, is that you don't get a new license for yo...
