Re: Autodesk Desktop Application Question

@Daniel or anyone else who is experiencing this... I heard back from Support and they gave me a link to check my Device Access Control settings on which devices are allowed to download the main software and updates and add-ons. I checked mine over and tried opening it up completely, and the differen...

Re: Max, or Maya?

What Daniel said is pretty much spot-on. I think that is a very logical way to go about it.

Re: Max, or Maya?

I know where you are coming from, I am trying to learn Maya myself as that is the route I took during the transition - I felt that was probably the safest for me at the time. As FXDude has mentioned, it is definitely no walk in the park for any Softimage user and can be really tough. I also feel wit...

Re: Max, or Maya?

Yeah, it is definitely a ton of money if you are just looking to grab Softimage, plus you have to continue on Maintenance to keep the other software (Max and Maya in particular) up-to-date, which gets expensive fast. Convincing Autodesk might be near impossible as I think efforts were made earlier. ...

Re: Max, or Maya?

Since you say it is mainly going to be for personal use, you could also look into Houdini, which would be cheaper if you grabbed the Indie version (commercial license for $200 per year), and they do have educational/learning versions too, which are free and watermarked, I believe...could be wrong th...

Re: Autodesk Desktop Application Question

Thanks for letting me know and that makes sense. For some reason with the new app, even when I am signed in, it does not find anything new for me. The last thing I have installed (via the older application manager) is Maya 2016 Ext. 1 SP6. After the launch of Extension 2, I was waiting for the older...

Re: Autodesk Desktop Application Question

Hi Luceric, I do not know what you mean specifically by "subscription entitlement?" All I know is that I was using the normal Autodesk Application Manager, and it had an auto-update to the new Autodesk Desktop Application. All I did was update the old version which brought me to the new on...

Re: Autodesk Desktop Application Question

Thanks. I have both the Maya and Softimage icon on my Desktop as well (Windows desktop). I was thinking you meant that you had it on the Autodesk Desktop Application showing in that program, that is where Softimage was missing for me. I see it is the same for you too. I guess it is good to know that...

Re: Autodesk Desktop Application Question

Hi Daniel. Thanks for the reply. I have "Maya with Softimage" and am on Maintenance Subscription too. Mine just shows Maya...doesn't even recognize Softimage, no icon for it or anything. I thought since Softimage was EOL'd that AD might have not built in that functionality to find it, or w...

Autodesk Desktop Application Question

Hello, This is kind of a general question, but it also somewhat applies to Maya, so I thought this might be the most appropriate place to post. I used to use the Autodesk Application Manager, which was a nice tool to get my downloads and updates. I've been working on some other projects in the meant...

Re: Autodesk Collections

It does seems safe and cheaper (compared to renting) right now to stay on sub with "Maya with Softimage". it's upgrading to the Suite I'm wary about, a product doesn't mention Softimage anywhere in the name. This is speculation, but they might retire the Maya with Softimage subscripttion ...

Re: Autodesk Collections

Hello, Maurice has stated that it will end up being #1, but you should check that with him. I do not speak for my employer, but myself, as a Softimage licensee, I would not take the risk. Let me explain why: Softimage asks and gets an "Ultimate 2015" suite license, not a "Softimage 2...

Re: Autodesk Collections

I guess I have a couple of months to decide... right, end of july Note that when you rent, you can also run 3 past versions like if you're on classic sub. You'll never get softimage with rental, though -- but since you're here I assume you already have it! I didn't know about previous versions also...

Re: Autodesk Collections

For what you get in the Collections, it is not a bad deal as you do have access to a lot of software. I am just not a fan of the rental method. I am on-the-fence of upgrading to the Ultimate Suite before this happens...who knows what might happen to Max in the future and/or if eventually I will be u...

Re: hardware - work stations

@OP

I made an edit in my first message on the previous page (bottom of that message) that mentions new video cards and BIOS updates from a manufacture. Just wanted to give a heads-up as it can be important.
