Re: Saving SI in an obscure way
Too many dreamers in here ;) 2 years ? Modo is not close yet to beeing able to compete fully with Maya or Max and it allready is out there for 10 years. You need years to develop a product which is production ready. There won't be any product in the near future, capable of doing what maya/max/modo c...

Re: mixamo script for xsi?
You could allways try motor if its about transfering animation.
But dunno what you want to do in the end ?

Re: portableWolfydomicile
have you ever tried the arnold renderer ? You should try that one
Everything is rly nice but the rendering part could just become way better with Arnold.

Re: Animation Learning (no tech way)
I met people at animation mentor who never touched a 3d software.
if its only and completly about animation you are good to go in about a month of learning your 3d package.
You only need to know the basics of animation in the package, the rest is animation knowledge.
Which is enough work overall ;)

Re: Animation Learning (no tech way)
Get her maya, download the free animation mentor stewie rig (and a bouncing ball for the start). Get "The animators survival kit" and you are ready to go.

Re: Autodesk retires Softimage
Redshift got a maya plugin.
And to be honest. A renderer is only 10% about it's integration into software. The rest of the knowledge is the renderer itself. And if it's good you are good to go.
Like Arnold, theres a plugin for houdini, blender, maya, softimage.

Re: Autodesk retires Softimage
Just crack the shit if the licenses won't work anymore.
You won't have support anymore anyways (i mean have you ever had support ?) so who cares.

Re: Why don't gather founds like blender to pay plugins for XSI?
Like Eugen said. Just let go.... Why should we stick to a dead product. Just move on, do it now and you gonna be happy you did it in a few years. Do it then and it might be too late. There is no sense anymore in writing plugins for Softimage. The userbase just makes it impossible for most of the dev...

Re: alembic particle color!!
What happens if you add an ice tree on the alembic object and a.e. get an attribute like color and set it then. get.data(color)-->set.data(color)
Can you then use the color attribute in the rendertree a.e. ?

Re: Yeah!! Hail to Softimage, winner of three awards at VES ...
Hmm actually. - Progressive rendering is worthless cause we still talk about Mentalray which no one (?) is using anymore. Imho in production 90% are using Arnold or Vray. - Alembic is nice but was allready there if needed. -exposure controls in render region and preview Hum ? Thats like a gimic ;) -...

Re: alembic particle color!!
Softimage doesn't know about what is in a Stadin. To go around this you could store an attribute a.e. called colorScalar with a scalar value between 0 and 1. Then as soon as you load the alembic you could use this scalar value in your rendertree to feed a gradient. Don't forget to add an ice tree on...
