Re: V-RAY FOR SOFTIMAGE BETA - finaly here
I really like the higher contrast, and deeper gray of the MR renderings. I solved the puzzle about why the render had more contrast. I used 8 FG rays and not 384 as stated (I've corrected the post now). I guess this also mean that, even though I like the contrast myself, the render is less accurate...

Re: V-RAY FOR SOFTIMAGE BETA - finaly here
origin: thanks, I might try that at some point, however for now it would beat the purpose of a direct comparison. A followup to my recent test. mental ray, 2h 10mins - min 16 - max 64 - quality 0,9 - cutoff 0,1 Triangle filter @ 2 Brute force final gather @ 384 rays. 3 bounces. Bookeh shader with 8 ...

Re: V-RAY FOR SOFTIMAGE BETA - finaly here
I got the mr render down to 2h 40 mins however I have reflections on the floor. They must have slipped in while trying to set up for 3delight.
I landed on 16/64 and cutoff at 0,1. DoF sampling on 6
I will try again and this time do similar optimizations to VRay as well.

Re: V-RAY FOR SOFTIMAGE BETA - finaly here
I will try that. The cutoff parameter makes sense and works as expected but I have no idea of what Quality does... controls quality.. yah, gaaaah Would make more sense if it had a fixed range, but it doesn't.

Re: V-RAY FOR SOFTIMAGE BETA - finaly here
I'll have to revisit 3delight some other time. It's not entirely behaving as expected. I get very long "pauses" before rendering starts and even then it halts shortly after starting.. and then resumes rendering. When I finally thought I got my head wrapped around things, I went for a rende...

Re: V-RAY FOR SOFTIMAGE BETA - finaly here
I eyeballed the quality when I was setting the scene up and you are correct in that it's difficult to tell which is better, but it's important to pixel peep in order to get proper comparisons. I will do a 3delight test shortly (hopefully) - I'm just in the middle of some other things right now. I'm ...

Re: V-RAY FOR SOFTIMAGE BETA - finaly here
This is... odd VRay, 3 hours 10 mins Adaptice DMC - min 1 - max 4 - threshold 0,005 Area filter @ 1,5 Brute force GI on prim and secondary with 44 subdivisions. 3 bounces DoF @ 32 subdivisions All walker models are VRMeshes Noise is very acceptable and holds up for post work. http://img265.imageshac...

Re: V-RAY FOR SOFTIMAGE BETA - finaly here
I thought about it but dropped the idea since the freebee only uses 2 cores, while mr and vray are using all 6 that I have. I guess I could get theoretical times by dividing by 3.Memag wrote:Can you throw in 3delight as well?

Re: V-RAY FOR SOFTIMAGE BETA - finaly here
I don't remember the settings too well but the scene/settings is only slightly different from the previous one. mental ray max samples were upped from 6 to 8 and cuttoff was lowered from 0,005 to 0,002. Thats the only thing I remember for sure. mental ray, 7min 16sec http://img191.imageshack.us/img1...

Re: V-RAY FOR SOFTIMAGE BETA - finaly here
Good idea. I must do that. I've set up a depth of field test so it will have to be after that.
I agree with the funny business of Unified Sampling - my experiences with it are very close to how you describe yours.

Re: V-RAY FOR SOFTIMAGE BETA - finaly here
I've been doing some tests with a dense scene. Each walker consists of pretty much 5000 meshes at a total of 7 million triangles. mental ray, 1h 55mins Unified Sampling - min 1 - max 6 - quality 0,9 - cutoff 0,005 Triangle filter @ 2 Brute force final gather @ 384 rays. 3 bounces. 1 real model and 9...

Re: Mustang 69 GT
True, can take some time to get adjusted to. I had been doing things the old way for more than a decade so it was hard to me to appreciate LWF in the beginning. It just kept looking wrong to me. But I stuck with it and now wouldn't go back at any cost. Unless a project deliberately requires an oldsc...

Re: Mustang 69 GT
I felt it could be of more use to write instead of just sending you a corrected scene. I'm glad you found my post helpful. I tried applying 2.2 gamma to the darker half of the image you just posted. I get different result than you, but it's as if the image is still too dark than how it should be. Di...

Re: Mustang 69 GT
Thanks - so much easier to see whats going on now. First the LWF. Locate Preferences->Display->Color Management Make sure everything is enabled with the tickmark. Set Profile Source to Gamma Values, and set the Gamma Values to 2.2 Now Locate Preferences->Rendering->Images Set color Profile to Automa...

Re: Mustang 69 GT
Hm.. could be number of things. Would be easier to have a look at the scene. You could remove or replace the car with a sphere if you understandably don't want to share it. But for now I'd say make sure you check visibility for all "helper" geometry and make sure they don't conflict with y...

Re: Mustang 69 GT
I just wanted to make sure when u say original color, do u mean the Silver/black stripes or u actually mean the material itsealf, make more rough (like the older cars) Basically pretty much whatever paintjobs it came with back in the days. Metallic paint would be too modern for this - but thats jus...
