Re: SI and Houdini
(cross-posted to the Softimage ML) Hello there It's been a while. I thought I'd post here and let you know, since there's been a lot of interest in Houdini, that we've created a dedicated forum for SI users on the SideFX site. Feel free to swing by and ask any questions you'd like about Houdini and...

Re: RETIREMENT Q&A
It's completely safe to upgrade to Softimage 2015 or the ECS 2015. It's the year after that you should, indeed, cancel your subscription in order to keep your perpetual license to Softimage. It's crazy, but I'm just telling you what the facts are. There is one bright spot for Premium Suite: you'll ...

Actually it doesn't read that bad. A lot of the little things that always made xsi special.
A little farewell present...

Re: RETIREMENT Q&A
Sorry I must be dense. Or I am merely incredulous. If I renew in 2015, will Softimage still work beyond 2016? If I renew again in 2016, will Softimage not work? EDIT: I'm not taking advantage of any free sidegrades. I'm already an Ultimate subscriber. Your Softimage 2015 license will technically wo...

Re: Autodesk retires Softimage
Now we’ve gone public with the official announcement, I can stick my head above the parapet. Breaking the news to a loyal user base that their preferred software was being retired was never going to be easy, and Autodesk knew that. Rumours had begun to surface in the last few weeks, but myself and ...

Well, that would be a huge step for Si, wouldn't it?luceric wrote:A couple of hundred people giving 50$ will buy you a few bug fixes, no more.
Many of us are paying much more right now and get neither useable new features nor bug fixes.

Re: What if Softimage died?
The equivalent of Softimage's "duplicate from animation" (and a very classic Softimage feature indeed) in Maya is more like Animate->Create Animation Snapshot what shown that video. staircase tutorial Not sure why one of the many instance-along-curve scripts haven't been integrated. I kno...

Re: What if Softimage died?
Ok, one last post from me to this topic. There are things you can master, and things you just cannot do and things you can do but they are fast here and slow there. There are things in every software, that do not have anything to do with skill or the amonut of time you spend learning a workflow. Thi...

Re: What if Softimage died?
Yes, you're right. Enough. Nevertheless, if AD really wants Si users to switch or have more people buy maya suites, these issues are the most pressing. I'm not all contra maya. I own a maya suite, but I use maya only when I really, really have to and I would love to use it a lot more if it wasn't so...

Re: What if Softimage died?
that's a pretty contrived argument. It's saying is that Softimage has a an interactive layout editor (which I originally wrote, btw), which Maya does not. But that's where the UI customisability options ends. =)) Yes, I admit, the customisability ends with you can have any layout you want ;). It en...

Re: What if Softimage died?
OK, just to make my point, the thing here is not what any UI must be like for everyone or about the outliner, but having the option to change what I one doesn't like, easily and without any line of code. That is possible in XSI and not possible in maya. Eg. you cant get rid of the vertical tabs, th...
