Re: How long will softimage be Competative...?
Nope your thoughts are wrong, sadly actually. For several reasons: Support. A company doing a feature film will not work with a software which is officially not supported anymore (I can't imagine that) Talent. A company will not risk to sit there not being able to size up the team cause there is no ...

Re: How long will softimage be Competative...?
This discussion somehow seems to go into a strange direction. In case in this thread everybody is hobbyist or having a 1 man shop directly working for clients everything fine and please ignore me. You can use it as long as you can feed yourself and your family. Should you start learning a new Softwa...

Re: Your Life, Your Max/Maya
So Softimage is not included in the normal Suites anymore (wasn't it bundled in the normal ones before ?), only in the ultimate ?

Re: Softimage 2015 Service Pack 1
Well I guess those guys didn't even had a bug list and had to fokus on softimage mailing list reports.
And because none of use cares too much anymore, there haven't been any bugs reported.
Just a wild guess ;)

Re: Free Autodesk flame training edition
Times have changed. Flame can be bought outright without hardware, and you can add "assistant" editing or fx seats for less than the price of Nuke. There hasn't been proprietary hardware for years; it runs on a certified HP z820 workstation/Quadro configuration. Flame Assist and Flare als...

Re: Free Autodesk flame training edition
Out of interest, anyone here actually used a Flame? I don't profess to know a great deal about Flame, but it's not just a simple comping app like Nuke. As a 3D guy, I can muddle my way in something like Nuke, I couldn't do the same in Flame. Finishing products like Flame, Da Vinci, Avid, etc are a ...

Re: Free Autodesk flame training edition
Nuke Studio is just the last nail in the coffin of flame.
Imho it is a dead Software, only the agencies/clients haven't realised yet.
But as soon as they do, why should anyone pay like 300% of the price of an nuke artist (not talking about the Software, only about what vfx houses charge).

Re: Don't Die XSI
Did you try that with more then 2 cards ?
Tried Octane with 3 Titans and it actually scales linear, there is no loss at all with more cards.
In the end the time the scene needs to be loaded into the card might allways be the bottleneck, but the actual rendering should scale quite well.

Re: Realistic character animation
So far no one mentioned the details you brought in there.
Nice work on the secondary motion, I love how the muscles/flesh feels.
The animation isnt bad at all, bit off with eyes and bit floaty movement but overall with light, shading and rigging awesome work.

hyperRealMeshParent was used for that.
Rivet probably would also work.

Maya FacialRig
While I’m learning maya I thought I start with a small project. It’s gonna be a multi layer control facial rig with muscle system. Here is the first WIP: Moderator edit: this thread has wandered back and forth between WIP and Maya. The status of WIPs and Fin...
