Re: Building a Softimage 2015 PC in 2020?
Hmmm, I don't know... Basically I am happy with the configuration as it stands and considering the apparent mess surrounding the launch of the 3080 I don't know if it's all that wise to wait... And more importantly: in this wonderful world of computer graphics there will always be a more shinier pie...

Re: Building a Softimage 2015 PC in 2020?
Thank you both for the confirmation!
I have decided to go all-in and overshoot my budget just a little bit
to get 32GB RAM and a "RTX 2070 super"...
This means I will have to stop eating Beluga caviar for breakfast every morning...

Re: Cycles for Softimage
Here's a strange problem... I hope I'm doing something wrong so do not hesitate to point out my error... When rendering a simple sphere, the render shows a bite taken out of it (see my crudely drawn highlight) What could I be doing wrong. It's a simple setup with Sycles diffuse shaders and a Sycles ...

Re: Building a Softimage 2015 PC in 2020?
Can someone confirm that Softimage 2015 will work with "RTX 2070 Super" or the slightly cheaper "RTX 2060 Super" ?
Thanks in advance...

Enhance_XSI on Softimage 2015?
Did anyone of you ever get the ancient Enhance_XSI addon to work under Softimage 2015?

Re: Building a Softimage 2015 PC in 2020?
While looking into this some more, I realised,
I actually haven't got a clue, what a "reasonable" price for a second-hand 1080ti should be...
Any indication in that regard would be helpful...
Another question: 16GB or 32GB RAM?

Thanks. I haven't yet found any reasonably priced, trustworthy offers for a used 1080ti, but that's something I could indeed add later...

Re: Cycles for Softimage
Ah, I just figured something out: in your pdf you mention setting the Cycles Area Light Strength to 250
but that seems to be way too high, resulting in overexposed images...
Leaving it at 1 seems to work much better...

Re: Cycles for Softimage
Just started using Sycles, but I can't seem to get it to work.
Could someone perhaps please post a simple sample scene I can use to check if everything works "as advertised"?
