Re: Softimage dxf importer for v6, v7.01, v7.5 & 2010/2011
As luceric says, it's definitely worth going the FBX converter route if you are importing 3d DXF information.

Re: Softimage dxf importer for v6, v7.01, v7.5 & 2010/2011
I'm most likely to be releasing this as open source when 2011.5 comes out as I do not have 2011 yet. The 2011 plugin was compiled using the trial when it first came out.The trial may be a later version, hence why it's not working.
I'll take look when I can find the time.

Re: New Softimage Plugins??
There is a lack good and easy to use volumic shaders right now I'm wondering, is this a basic mental ray issue? Are shader writers waiting for something new to be added to mental ray or is it due to Softimage not generating the right "forms" to be rendered? I seriously would love a shader...

Re: Mechanical Rigging.
I don't think mechanical rigging is that different from organic rigging tbh. The main difference is that I (personally) model the components as separate meshes and envelope them each individually to the bones (when its all done and working well I merge the meshes back into one mesh). You can set rot...

Re: OK, so the sky isn't falling, but AD isn't marketing SI well
@electricgeisha: Can I just say that 3d general apps is a market which notoriously difficult to make inroads in terms of userbase. People stick with what they know unless they have no choice but to change. Learning materials are still so vague and unhelpful for most packages that its still takes wee...

Re: OK, so the sky isn't falling, but AD isn't marketing SI well
At least you have the luxury of having some info about the new version, mostly when I renew my Subscription the new version is months away and there is no info about it whatsoever... Indeed - you're right. 2011.5 looks extremely promising! Perhaps I was hoping for a reason NOT to buy subscription a...

Re: OK, so the sky isn't falling, but AD isn't marketing SI well
To be honest, I don't know. Shame. So in a sense, I'll be paying my subscription (if I so choose) in the hope that 2011.5 is working perfectly (or at least contains no major "showstoppers"). No try before I buy! Softimage ICE as the plugin it apparently really has become At least it's not...

Re: Is the CAP still going anywhere?
Its "community"-made because a community will make it, not because its "democratic". We've an idea and a script. We need concepts to define the look, storyboards and we are off. As soon as we have got the concepts (and maybe storyboards) and we are all happy with them, we could s...

Hi Graham,
Do you know if there will be a trail/demo version of 2011.5 including Lagoa/empolygoniser?
Cheers.

Re: Is the CAP still going anywhere?
He pm'ed me about 10 days ago and I told him that its not dead ....yet. The main issue for me is time. I have a wife and kid who are getting (as they should be) most of my attention. After that there's real-work and then Black Mesa. Unfortunately, the CAP sits below all these, so I've only managed t...

Re: Umm I think we meant why doesn't SI have its OWN!
Ok. I've read enough posts to be convinced now that this is huge positive for Softimage. Its only people's negative assumptions and (as a result) their ego's that are being unneccessarily bruised. The truth is that Max and Maya studios have requested access to Softimage - NOT Maya or Max. That alone...

Re: Umm I think we meant why doesn't SI have its OWN!
Graham, thanks for quoting Raffaele's post, its good to hear different perspectives about this but it's impossible not to feel a little apprehensive in regards to this development. I'm going to wait and see. I'm quite sure AD are not doing this to be negative about Softimage, rather to get it into p...

Re: Lagoa Teaser from Thiago Costa
Interesting to see that Lagoa may already be part of the next Softimage release...? Or at least the new 2011 premium entertainment suite... If I read the news item at the link below rightly, it looks like Softimage is being "sidelined" as a major Autodesk 3d application and id being includ...

Re: Lagoa Teaser from Thiago Costa
Rather than buy Costa outright, Softimage would be better licensing part of this (if possible) and intergrating it into the next Softimage release. Like they did with UV unwrapper plugin (which is not complete). For example, you could just allow access to just preset materials in Softimage vanilla a...
