Anisotropy vinyl disk case (solved)

Post by mc_axe » 30 Oct 2016, 22:13

Hey all, i just reviewed an old scene it is an MK II pickup, it renders really fast on RS but some problems persist.
Since vinyl disk is 70% of the render it has to be really cool looking i mean should be close to real:

Ofc atm is nothing close to that^^

So far i to use a radial black and white map to drive the anisotropy vectors (similar to this).

But im still getting artifacts on specular reflections that look like bad compression plus there is a visible line where the black and white connects.

Instead of creating a huge photoshop file with lots of bits?
Can i use a procedural generated map from SI?
Or maybe i need a different radial map not sure how to fix.

Increasing quality of image resolution bits didnt fix the visible line problem.
I just used a Gradient node (type radial rainbow from black to white ) instead of a map and works as a charm all artifacts gone :ympeace:

Well still the 'vinyl shader' needs some work i need to find for a start a very detailed radial bump or make one :-?

looking good - For ultimate realism you could try texturing it with some actual sound files. What could work for that is export raw from audacity- import raw in gimp.

Had to try it :D

8K*2000 pixel tif
Super awesome idea rray, thx for the texture!
I didnt knew that was even possible. Now i need to guess what song is in that img
*Looks closely in to pixels :-B

You can open the tif in audacity as raw data to hear it, although it pauses every 2 seconds for 2 seconds because I inserted extra lines for the texture
(Settings 4400hz 8bit unsigned)

Actually not sure whether it's usable as a texture like this or what has to be done to make it look good.
