Importing old models with missing plugins/shaders workaround

Post by theboykidney » 11 Feb 2014, 20:03

Have had to dig through some seriously old jobs [circa Softimage v4], and getting a lot of CLS errors, or something - the ones when you don't have the right shaders etc.
Anyway to pull them in anyway, maybe by ignoring the shaders or something?
cheers.

If there's nothing 'exotic' regarding custom stuff in the scenes, you can open them safely, and ignore all the CLSID errors.

One of the things to do after that, is check all shadertrees for missing shaders, and rebuilt them. Probably best from scratch.

There's this list of all the custom shaders and their 'missing in scene' errors: http://softimage.wiki.softimage.com/ind ... _Reference
You might have a search in there, as it might help you with the missing shaders.
Just open up the script editor, and start comparing ;-)

cheers,

Unfortunately, import causes crash most of the time. when it doesn't, pretty much everything else will!

Try merging the scene.
There's also a 'scene debugging' mode under preferences>tools>datamanagement.

Maybe that help too.
