keyvis Curve ToolsAuthor: Eugen Sares
V1.4. A set of curve-related tools with the recent addition of a curve tool panel PPG. From the download page:

This addon adds the most needed Curve Operators to Softimage, bringing it to a level of flexibility comparable to 3ds max. It does not make Softimage an »industrial strength« Curve modeller, like e.g. Rhino, but in many scenarios you won't need another application for Curve editing any more. Tools included: Attach Curves: attach one or many Curve(Lists) to the first in the selection. Blend Subcurves: connect Subcurves with a Segment (bridge) between every selected Curve Boundary pair. Delete Subcurves: delete one or many Subcurves. Duplicate Subcurves: duplicate one or many Subcurves, with Translate x, y, z parameters. Extract All Subcurves: »explode« a CurveList - every Subcurve becomes a Curve object. Invert (Sub)Curves: change curve direction. Like the factory tool, but with Subcurve support. Log Curve Data: for debugging purposes. Logs (Sub)Curve details in a Script Editor. Points, Knot vector, degree, etc. Merge Subcurves: connect Subcurves by »welding« selected Boundary pairs (2 endpoints -> 1 midpoint). Offset (Sub)Curves: draw an outline around selected (Sub)Curves. Open/Close (Sub)Curves: like the factory tool, but with a few more options and with Subcurve support. Scissor Knots/Isopoints: cut Subcurve(s) in two or more pieces at selected Knots or Isopoints. Curve Tools Panel: Custom PPG containing all Curve Tools plus options for Isopoint selection: Intersections and Subdivisions. Curve trims and booleans can be realized with it (although maybe not as comfortable as in 3ds max).

After installation, all operators can be found under Model > Modify > Curve, except »Extract All Subcurves«, which is in Model > Create > Curve

CurveTools

Post by Hirazi Blue » 21 Apr 2011, 19:52

Over at the German Softimage Community Eugen Sares proudly presents
his keyvisCurveTools addon that comprises of the following scripts:
Modelling>Modify>Curves:

AttachCurves (CurveLists)
BlendSubcurves (Curve Boundaries)
DeleteSubcurves (Subcurves)
DuplicateSubcurves (Subcurves)
InvertSubcurves (Subcurves)
(LogCurveData)
MergeSubcurves (Curve Boundaries)
OffsetSubcurves (Subcurves)
OpenCloseSubcurves (Subcurves)
SplitSubcurves (Knots)

Modelling>Create>Curve

ExtractAllSubcurves (CurveLists)
There is as of yet no real documentation, but most tools should be more or less self-explanatory... ;)

For those of you who read German or want to learn it the hard way, the German thread from idea to ultimate conclusion can be found here

Nice find!

And for that German forum, that's why they invented translation engines :ymparty:

edit: in the first post of the thread there's talk of a Curve Intersection command. It's not in the addon. Fastreading the thread I cannot seem to find if this one is still on the list. It woulds help 'us' archviz folks a lot.

I wouldn't know: I studied "German literature and language" at University long ago (with "drs" title and all, it was however a shortlived career...), I just - mistakenly - assume, everybody should be able to understand/read it...

well, a survey just finished in Holland showed German to be the least popular language to learn at school.
I don't know about the rest of Europe :-??

To answer the "Curve Intersection" question of your edit above:
it doesn't seem to be mentioned ever again in that thread. :-\

And to make one more OT comment about the German language in Dutch education: we really should consider catching up, as the Netherlands do way too much business with Germany to ignore their language. But this was a problem already when I was at university and most universities seem to have dropped anything related to the German language ever since...

Leendert,

As I'm not a member of that forum, maybe you can ask about the Curve Intersection command?

OT: you're right about the business thing, it's very important. But looking at the general education level these days, I'm not very optimistic 8-}

@Rork - Post a short question here (or in PM) I can easily translate & I'll post it, await an eventual answer, translate it back & post (or PM) it here... (offer expires after one question ;) )

hehe....

well, the question is simple I guess...
- "Curve Intersection"
This option is not in the final addon build. Will this curve command be added in the future, or is there a SDK limitation somewhere?

thanks for the 'trouble' of posting this on the German forum :D

Meanwhile keyvis.at has put a web page online with some extra info (and some words of warning): Curve Tools
It might be wise to read it (especially what's mentioned under
"Softimage bugs, SDK limitations and suggestions for improvement")

@Rork - Eugen just answered: he agrees that it would be very useful and thinks it should be doable, but he says he lacks the necessary "nurbs math" skills to implement it... (German original here)

Thanks for the heads up!

My math skills are even less evolved, so I can't really help in that dept. :-??

Can someone confirm that this works in SI 2012?

I am constantly getting Warning:Object error.
