LuXSI (Luxrender export plug-in)

Post by miga » 22 Jul 2009, 23:22

LuxRender is a new open source software rendering system for physically correct, unbiased image synthesis. Rendering with LuxRender means simulating the flow of light according to physical equations, thus producing realistic images of photographic quality.

And here is the export plug-in for Softimage 7.x:
LuXSI_Test_090721 (Windows 32/64bit, Linux 32bit)

Readme (out of date, will update it soon)
old version of the plug-in but the source and shaders are included

I will update the package (shaders, readme, plug-ins) soon. In the meantime use the test version from the first link together with the latest RC from luxrender.

And by the "latest RC" you mean "Version 0.6 RC4" on the Luxrender download page, I presume?
Or is there some even more recent version brewing in development we should use instead? ;)
LuxRender is a new open source software rendering system
New? I thought it has been around for quite a while now...

Yes, 0.6 RC4 is the latest version of luxrender at the moment.
It's been around for a while thats true. I've just copied their text from the start page. I'll tell them to remove the "new" :)

Version 0.6.1
Out now! Download
SI 2010 Windows 64bit / SI 7 Windows 32bit / SI 7 Linux 32 bit

tested on: Modtool (Win 32bit), XSI 7.0.1 ( Linux 32bit), SI 2010 Win7 64bit
Manual: http://www.luxrender.net/wiki/index.php ... XSI_Manual
Spanish Manual: http://www.luxrender.net/forum/viewtopi ... 314#p31519

Version 0.6.1
* compatible with Luxrender 0.6
* start luxrender from LuXSI
* updated presets
* resume button
* fixed spotlight export
* set temp filename
* set luxrender path through ini (LuXSI.ini in the Userpath)
* fixed paths on windows
* updated exr string in lxs file (no more warnings)
* removed IGN
* added PNG
* only add one LuXSI instace in the scene
* objects exported with locale coordinates and transformation
* instances
I will keep the major version number the same as luxrenders version number so its easier to get the right version (last version was already 0.6 thats why this is 0.6.1 :) ).

Please test it and and give feedback! I've cleaned up a lot so I hope everything is still working as expected :)

direct rendering seems to be broken, so just export the files and load them manually in luxrender.

And a small preview:
Image ICE ;)

hi, at the moment the normal SI shaders (like phong, archvis, lambert,...) are converted (see: http://www.luxrender.net/wiki/index.php ... #Materials)

How to install it on XSI 2010 ?
I got the export plug-in for XSi, but where to put those files exactly ?

Edit, i got it actually... checked out the wiki...

Dudes, i dont wanna be rude or something but... what is the point to make another external render for XSI ???
On the market there soo many, sooo many of them that its pointless to do another. .. yes, its free but the power of XSI is to have integrated render, to work with passes, render tree etc...

I can confirm that it doesn't work with XSI 7.01 x64 in it's current form. It probably needs a recompile...
Strangely, however, when attempting to load the plugin into XSI 7.01 x64 I get a different error message
# ERROR : 2000 - A procedure couldn't be found in library: C:\Users\***\LuXSI_2010_64.dll. The library will not be loaded.
The plugin does work (as advertised) with 2010 SP1, but also seems to work with 7.5... :-\

I think I'll try to summon miga himself... ^:)^

Hi, sorry I had notifications turned off so I didn't see the replies.
I don't have a 64bit machine to compile it on. You need to compile it yourself if you need it. The source and VC++ project file is included in the repository: http://src.luxrender.net/luxsi
