ScriptEd - alternative script editor

Post by Hirazi Blue » 05 Jun 2009, 14:24

ScriptEd, the alternative script editor for (X)SI, offering some very useful features,
can be downloaded here (right-click & save as)

You'll probably need the VC 2008 Redistributable package:
Get it here: x64 or here: x64
Support for XSI 32-bit and 64-bit versions on Windows
Syntax highlighting for JScript, Python and VB Script. Also, for each language, you may add more keywords to be highlighted
Split screen editing for a single document (ref. 1st screen shot)
Multiple views for looking at various documents (ref. 2nd screen shot)
Code folding
Multiple tabs (10+ possible since v1.8)
Auto-completion of XSI Commands, Methods or a Custom list
Change font size on the fly (Ctrl + mousewheel)
There is a preferences box, which propagates changes instantly through all the tabs of the editor and also saves the settings for future use.
Drag and drop support to open files by dropping them on to the editing window
Auto-Save unsaved scripts to a folder of the users choice (Please set this folder on first use in Preferences, remember to click ‘Save As Defaults’)
Integrated into a custom layout
Code commenting/uncommenting
Customizable background colour for the editing text box
Context sensitive help on XSI commands
Unicode / ANSI friendly
Context menu similar to native script editor
"There is a bug in 7.5 which prevents a Custom Display Hosts being embedded in the layout. (...)
For people interested in using ScriptEd in v7.5, I would suggest setting up a shortcut key to open the floating ScriptEd window."
The original Softimage|NET-thread has resurfaced here

The newest version of ScriptEd (2.0b) has just been released...
You can download it here (right-click and save as)

I’m pleased to release the new version of ScriptEd (2.0b).

The following changes have been made in this version:
- Added ability to automatically reload a plugin which has been saved
- Added ability to switch on Vertical Guides
- Added ability to get focus automatically
- Added ability to fold all fold points after a file has been loaded
- Added a ‘Function List’ combobox which can be used to navigate to function definitions quickly
- Added a ‘Goto Definition’ context menu item if the mouse is right clicked on a function call
- Left clicking on the loaded file path copies the folder path to the clipboard
- Right clicking on the loaded file path copies the file path to the clipboard
- The file path is shortened to fit the width of the available space

- The Preferences dialog has been updated to tabbed format (General and Colours)
- Added following to General tab:
- Vertical guides
- Fold on load
- Call tips (beta)
- Call tips description (beta)
- Get focus automatically
- Reload plugin after save
- Added ability to change and save colours in the Colours tab

- All user related preferences now get saved in the User home directory. This enables the ScriptEd addon to reside in a network workgroup.

- Removed different choices for auto-completion. If switched on, this will autocomplete methods and commands.
- Removed the background colour slider. (There is now a dedicated Colours tab in the preferences box)

The following have been added as ‘beta’ in the preferences:
- Added beta for showing call tips after a method has been typed
- Added beta for showing a short description and related commands in the call tip window
Please note that it’s in ‘beta’ only because:
- I haven’t had time to generate the complete list yet (waiting for finished doc)
- The call tip may go off screen (trivial to fix)

I’ve tested this on 7.01, 7.5 & 2010 on 32b & 64b on Windows XP & Vista

(...)

Please remember to both: uninstall & delete the previous version from XSI/system(hdd) before installing the new version. Please read the Installation instructions in the first post if you’re installing ScriptEd for the first time.

:-bd

P.S. The bug in 7.5 concerning the Custom Display Host appears to have been fixed in SI2010

A new update... :-bd
The following changes have been made in this version:
- Added ability to insert spaces instead of the tab character (\t)
- Added ability to show whitespace characters
- Added ability to automatically close brackets
- Added preference option of setting the encoding format of a new file. Encoding options are:
- ANSI
- UTF-8
- UTF-16 LE
Keep in mind that a file which has been opened with a particular encoding format will be Saved and Saved As with the same encoding.
Softimage 2010 supports these 3 encoding formats as well.
To save a file already present on disk in another encoding format, copy paste the contents into a new tab and hit Save As, the file will then be saved with the encoding format you selected in preferences (default ANSI)
Download it here (right-click & save as)
Please remember to both: uninstall & delete the previous version from XSI/system(hdd) before installing the new version.
Stay safe, sane & healthy!
