Most Valuable Plugin?

Post by Hirazi Blue » 17 May 2015, 14:03

Let’s do a admittedly rather pointless thread highlighting our favorite addons, scripts and plugins, cleanly separated between commercial and non-commercial offerings.

My own absolute personal favorite in the commercial sector is EnhanceXSI, a set of Rendertree nodes for procedural texturing in Mental Ray.

Non-commercial is a tougher call. There is just so much, often not very flashy but highly valuable.
I have used ScriptEd for quite a long time and I spent a lot of time with ICE-SPH, the precursor to Lagoa.
But this category deserves a more or less clear “winner” as well, so I guess Kristinka deserves top honors.
;)

most valuable is perhaps the 'meta' plugin. rray.de/xsi . where would I be without you in a new company, location, machine or install..! ^:)^

but back on topic the one I use a lot is a deform by curve, Fabrico's 'Power Extrude' a firm favourite is Helge's Pixel Particles and Bullet and for commercial most definitely Mootz's Emfluid 5
Gossip is what no one claims to like, but everybody enjoys.

I have used Helge's spring so many times over the years, fish tails and the like, it's never let me down in the stability stakes. Thanks for that Helge.
Plus one on RRay.de too, such a lifesaver

MC-Gear, hands down.. A real time saver for really fun rigs to play with.

Free = Non-commercial? Or is it about the license?

Another I find kinda fun for free out there: Mach Studio Pro 2 - more like it's own little thing with exporters for Softimage. aLso Non-commercial. The company declared it free, and the copyright stated that they can change the terms at any moment.

I'm just a hobbyist, so my favorite plugins are any that are free and compatible with Foundation 5.11 and Mod Tool 7.5 :D

I use a lot but these are the regulars:
  • MoveNormal by Jarno Gruppen
  • ObjDnD by Steve Caron
  • Roadkill plugin by Kim Aldis (and the one modified by Janosch for Mod Tool 7.5)
  • AlignToElement by Daniel Harjanto
  • jj_VectorSnap by Julian Johnson
  • cgPolyMakePlanar by Chris Gardner
  • XSI ZETools by Benedikt Schatz
  • PandemicBF2 by Pandemic Studios
My hat's off to every plugin developer out there for making things so much easier for me and many others, especially when they didn't have to.

Wow cool, I'd love to use these with the Mod Tool, kinda want to keep up my practice in the Mod Tool. Where do you find these online? (did a search and found it very hard to find some of them).

Always start your Softimage addon search over at rray's invaluable rray.de resource site
and once you've located an entry, it's often best (especially with older stuff) to head for the "local backup" directly.

Happy to be of service with that site! ..picking up some ideas from this thread for the next update 8-x

Couldn't say which is the "best" but what I'm using the most often overall is Szabolcs' "Jester Addon" and Ahmidou's "UV Stamp"
