For a small screen devices apps like tapatalk are really great, you dont have to zoom in/out hunting for links to click, it formats everything to a simple item list (like gmail app)

...but with ipad i would probably stick to a standard web browser

As some (few) of you probably know, tapatalk is functioning as a plugin on our forum (read all about it here), but last time I checked (the tapatalk stats) exactly three people were using it, one of them being the person who brought it up originally (pun intended) and our two additional testers.
It would obviously be nice if some more people would consider using it... :p

hehe :)
The problem is it's paid app. If someone knows free one let us know!

I tried Convo which is supposed to be a free Taptalk client. Couldnt get it to find si-community, so cant say anything good or bad about it. I dont like the idea of paying for apps, since Android has sooooo much free stuff, but I must say that for all the time and data Taptalk saves it is worth it. IMHO

Yes, the fact that Tapatalk isn't a free app bugged/bugs me too. Looking at the price they ask for it, it doesn't feel like such an enormous setback, considering it apparently opens up the si-community on smartphones and from what I hear it does so quite well. A friend of mine (who does own a smartphone) also informed me that in the smartphon world paying a small amount of money for apps is quite common...
To me as an administrator there is a hidden benefit to the fact that Tapatalk is a commercial app, although it has yet to be proven to be true (and I hope it will never come to that). If something goes horribly wrong, I know "where they live", so to speak (i.e. whom I could pester for additional support). All kinds of non-commercial solutions might be harder to track down, if and when the s*** hits the fan...
;)

Now might be a good time to finally add rray's screenshots of Tapatalk in action that I technically couldn't add to the announcement post (as it already was way over its word count limit). To state the extremely obvious: these are two screenshots merged together to one image...

Tapatalk Update

I have just installed an update to our Tapatalk plugin.
As I still don't own a smartphone, I need feedback, as I am unable to test it myself...
:-?

Looks like it's working fine! Tested image attachments, post editing etc...

Deleting attachments after posting doesn't work but that's probably a missing feature in tapatslk itself

I'm late, but I just tried Convo and works fine (free tapatalk client for android), the web server for this forum is: si-community.com/community

Cheers!

Great! Hope more people join in since free apps seem to work... I check this community often through the phone now, even though some limitations apply.
Hope other forums would adopt it...

What would those be? Bear in mind I don't/probably won't ever own a smartphone/device,
so "our" implementation of Tapatalk has basically been running on blind faith alone from day one...
;)

Like the great poet Justin Bieber would have said: never say never.

As far as I can tell the limitations are few...
1. Code view mode thingy
2. All Si-communities' great emoticons
3. Embedded video (although it shows a link to flash video, which is ok)

I believe it was the equally "stellar" Selena Gomez who sang: "Tell Me Something I Don't Know" :p

- Please remind me what was wrong with the CODE tags in this context...
- The issue with custom emoticons and custom bbcode can't be helped at the moment, as Tapatalk doesn't support either (yet) AFAIK.
(although it shows a link to flash video, which is ok
- Does this apply to our VIM tags as well?

As with all issues concerning Tapatalk, the si-community or me can't obviously guarantee anything! :-

Random fact:
100% of all the four users online right now are using a taptalk client

(Logged in that was)

I've used the free app "Convo" on my samsung SIII I prefer using the web site on my mobile though.. because the app does not have "View Active Topics" and marks everything as "read" everytime I leave the app. Too bad as well that it doesn't reflect the look of the site.
