Site slow and other forum bugs

Post by rray » 28 Jan 2013, 22:45

Is anyone else getting Connection timeouts/slow loading on si-community? Other site are ok for me.

Moderator edit: changed the topic title to make it a general/generic forum bugs thread. - HB

Yes, same here. Started some time this afternoon, ranging from very slow loading times to raw time out errors.

[phpBB Debug] PHP Notice: in file /newgallery.php on line 2: file(http://www.si-community.com/download/si-gallery/newgallery.txt): failed to open stream: HTTP request failed!

So site is very slow.

...so it's not just me...
This is the first time since yesterday evening I have been able to log in. I reported the problem to owei, but on his side there seemed to be nothing wrong.

To even get here I resorted to using our Artodia Mobile style (adding "?style=8" or "&style=8" to the URL), which doesn't prevent any connection errors, but loads a lot quicker when there is a connection.

I think the gallery error is more of a symptom than the cause of all the problems, BTW.

As I am running a fever ATM, I can't look into it with full fervor, desperately hoping its some kind of server problem that will get resolved eventually.

Please imagine some smilies to this post, as the Artodia style doesn't feature a smilies panel... ;)

Important edit:
Just visited the website of the webspace provider Owei uses, where they explicity state that there are currently problems with the availability of certain domains and that they're working hard to resolve these problems.

Since monday/tuesday my username/password is not remembered and 'go to first unread post' is not working anymore. Anyone else have this?

This is new to me, sadly. :-\
Could this be browser-dependent? What browser are you using?
Does it happen in both regular styles (subsilver2 & subsilver_black)?
Does the problem with the last post occur only after or also before you login?

If there are more users experiencing this, please add to this discussion like druitre already suggested, as it might help figuring out what's going on.
I can't guarantee any quick solutions (still :ymsick: ), but I'll look into it.

PS I've changed the title of this thread to "Site slow and other forum bugs" to make it a generic/general "forum bug" thread. I sincerely hope any bugs reported here will be accompanied by as much information as possible that could possible help tracking down and resolving the issue...

I am back to regular login it seems, just had to set the flag 'log me on automatically each visit' again. Still no 'last unread post' though. (BTW, I have not cleared my browser's cache recently or changed anything Firefox-specific AFAIK)

Could this be browser-dependent? What browser are you using? - Firefox 18.01 on win7 64
Does it happen in both regular styles (subsilver2 & subsilver_black)? - yes
Does the problem with the last post occur only after or also before you login? - both, I just don't see that option anymore

hope this helps. Good luck!

I'm not certain, but isn't this simply a case of the option ("First unread post") disappearing once you've actually read the most recent post? The icons in the forum/"active topics" view should still work...
:-?

PS I think the option only appears for users who are logged in, so that was my bad.

Nope, AFAIK it always jumps to the last visited page of a thread I previously visited (if that's clear; assume that I'm by default browsing through the 'active topics' page) so whenever I'm in a thread that I've visited before, I should see the 'jump to first unread post'.

Anyway, I'm seeing it now - did you change anything?
