Softimage Wireless MIDI - Device Capture Tutorial

Post by sirdavid32 » 28 Jan 2015, 20:01

Hi friends, I came across a great app called TOUCHOSC on Android. I´m a PC user with Android phone/tablet devices.
What basically TOUCHOSC does is to send wireless MIDI signals on your WIFI connection to your PC. And being the case, you can
capture devices in softimage with MIDI commands.

-There are 3 parts involved:
1. Installing the app on your android
2. Set the PC to "listen" to midi ports from wifi
3. Setting up your Softimage Device Capture options to DRIVE parameters for your objects/scene

I can elaborate a lot here, but if you´re interested or have some questions, there is a fully detailed tutorial
on my website. Right now it´s lunch time here, so I keep this post short atm.

Here´s the link to the http://wp.me/p4qGvb-31 tutorial. If you find it useful, please share it. Let´s keep the questions and answers on this thread, please.

Thanks!

Sorry the "pretty cool! ;;)" part was refferring to the midi stuff.

But ya Soft always had great channel drivers.

And using multi-controls to simultaneously drive things can be invaluable when doing facial anim as your screenshot suggests, among many other applications,

And now it seems that anyone with a phone /tablet can benefit from that without dedicated hardware.

But how "live" is the response, and is it a bit finnicky to grab the sliders an such?

I imagine it's somewhat better experience on a tablet, but how is it (with say 3 fingers) on a smaller phone?

Nevertheless, thanks so much for finding and testing such a cool thing to see if it worked,
and especially for that step by step guide!

Now everyone will have to think of that whenever animating faces .. or just animating :)

I´ll try to upload a video. I was first trying to see how this ball rolls, but if it doesn´t then no video.

Quote from the list

And as we see: the cool stuff is always done with our favorite software.

Best regards

I think a fair number will be very greateful for this (particularly after using it)

I'll personally give it a go once I get a minute (these days)

And it also goes the other way around, if you make a video, it will roll better ;)
(and perhaps break the silence sometimes around here :) Comon! on your feet people!)
