I see.
I have done something similar in the past, but added some additional 3D noise to the mix.
Never rendered with SSS though, it does look a lot better that way ;)

And the 'visible earth' website is the bees knees for textures :)

cheers!

Here is a closer render of the clouds, I think thats closest distance without getting ugly:

@Rob: Yea, I was suprised becouse I was focused to use VDB instead of SSS.
I used olegs VDB tool once. I like the result - but way more time to set up everything:

Yeah, closeups is where it falls apart.

I also tried creating noise based "cloud alpha's" with these setups, to make it more fractal-ly, so the closeups would hold up better.
I think with setups like this you get only so far, and at some point you have to start working with volumes. Which clouds are ;)

Let's BUMP this thread...

or did you already move to other software completely?
If you can't show anything (yet), nice descriptions of the work you are doing will have to suffice...

Nice, I love this thread. I'm working on a personal project of making volumetrics with eevee in Blender/Bforartists. It's fun.

I also finished a game for an exhibit in Unreal Engine/Bforartists (to author) and doing motion graphics in Bforartists/Eevee.

I have move on 100% to Bforartists and sometimes Unreal Engine. I found the 2.8 update with Eevee really great for quick turnaround projects, and the work people have done with the UX and UI of Bforartists makes Blender that much easier to use and it's.. not as efficient as SI still due to architecture, but it's developing and very much alive. Feels good to be in opensource.

nice bump :) good stuff here. Draise that galaxy looks like the real thing.

I've been doing some personal stuff over the last few months, some 3D printing on my new photon printer, so far models from websites like thinigiverse and my minifactory only. Used Softimage for this too, to repair the Nefertiti ears, and to cut out the brain model from the skull model and make a hole. After printing filled the brain through the hole with candle wax so it's white and becomes visible.

Howdy,
I made this a while ago - my last "serious" project with the scope of learning more character related stuff in Houdini.
