Slide Relax Brush

A one-click solution for setting up XSI for smooth/relax weightmap painting. Start painting by selecting either the menu item Modify > Deform > m.Slide Relax Brush or the item with the same name inside an object's context menu.

From the si-community thread: This is a simple tool that uses a combination of Shrink Wrap, Relax, Gator and Weight Maps to relax a mesh without changing its shape, or at least, not by much. Something similar to slide edges. It also has an option to preserve UVs using Gator. It is very simple, but very useful for my modeling, I wish I had done this a long time ago.

Video demo on Youtube.

it is pretty easy, it takes a lot of steps but it isn't difficult. I made a smooth / relax brush years ago, but I've never though about combining it with shrink wrap which turned up to be great because using only smooth deforms the shape.

To do it manually:
duplicate your obj
hide dup
apply shrink wrap to your obj and take the dup as reference
apply relax
Move both operators above the modeling stack
be sure that relax is below shrink op to have the slide effect.
create a weight map
connect the weight map with relax

and to get preserve UV:
apply gator and take the dup as reference
rename old UVs
transfer UVs
rename UVs to match the original UVs name so they will be displayed in the viewport

use your brush and paint.

freeze operators
delete weight maps
delete dup

or you can do it with a few clicks now ;)

Hey myara,
your tool is brilliant! could you insert a button that disables the reproject in the smooth and disables the shrinkwrap operator?
this way the tool could also be used for a normal smooth. this would be very handy.
thanks alot!

For smooth you can also use the normal build in method: create a weigthmap, smooth, connect the smooth strength paramter to the weightmap, then paint on the map.

Hey rray,
Thanks for your reply.
Your described workflow is absolutly doable. the nice thing about myaras method is the one click solution. And if it would also work for normal smooth i think the tool would be even better.
By the way thanks for your fantastic website :-bd :x

Added a 'Shrink Wrap' option that changes the Shrink Wrap Amplitude from 0 to 10 by default (-100 to 100 manually).

Hope it helps.

NP. There was a little bug with objects using Scene Material. Fixed it and uploaded again.

Hey myara,
thanks for your effort! I dont want to be annoying sry :D
but the reproject in the smooth operator is still active, after i turn down the shrink wrap value to zero.
so its still not just a "normal" smooth after setting shrinkwrap value to zero.
thanks again for your great work and sry for me being annoying.
cheers

I don't mind adding a few things here and there when I have some free time, but I don't understand what do you want.

When Shrink Wrap Operator's Amplitude is in 0, it's the same as muting it, or even, delete it.

The Preserve UV option is using Gator to reproject the UV, but it's an optional checkbox that is disabled by default.

Hey Myara,
sry for the confusion. i guess the problem is that i used the wording "normal smooth" were "standard smooth" would have been more appropriated.
I made a picture to illustrate what i mean. in the end its quite simple.
I thank you for your time and patience!
cheers

Ok, Added a Reproject option.
The GUI is bigger and uglier now but it works better I think.

I think Shrink Wrap isn't necessary in most cases so I disabled it by default.

Hey Myara,
thank you very much!
super handy tool! :x
there is just a slight issue with freeze. it ignores the weightmap for me and smoothes out everything.

I changed a few lines that may have broken that part. Damn.
I'll be out until Wednesday, I'll fix it then.
