No idea really, but what you can do is add a PAUSE command at the end of the start script for XSI.
That way the cmd window will stay open at the end of the script run, and you might see a error somewhere.

I got it giong with W10 before, but on an Nvidia card. My AMD, really a former ATI card could not run it on W10.

I think there are some Microsoft Redistributibles you need to install, come to think of it. Try the ones from 2005, I have those installed to get it going. I could be wrong..

The Microsoft Redistributables come with it and install when you install it

Did you solved this? Why not go to the /bin/ directory, search for xsi.exe and right click on properties, make it backwards compatible with windows 7. First thing jumps to mind.
Also: Take notice that MOD tool wasn´t design to run with cudas. As a matter of fact your problem looks like a DirectX issue.
1. Start windows in Basic configuration (Safe mode with connection to net)
2. Uninstall Nvidia Graphics card with DDU uninstaller: http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/dis ... nload.html
3. Restart your machine again into SAFE MODE.
4. Install Softimage MOD (it will install direct X backward compatibility on win 10 will give you "old drivers", override, accept, go). Finish complete install.
5. Run Softimage MOD tool (it will run or at least give you the exact error).
6. Restart your machine.
7. When you arrive to Windows 10 full mode, REINSTALL appropiate GTX 610 drivers again.
8. Restart your machine
9. Get to windows with full installs and Run Softimage MOD.
10. Njoy.

Maybe a tip is to install something like VMWare or Virtualbox, and keep older versions of the OS and some apps as a virtual pc.
Especially when doing a lot of web based work this is quite useful.

heck, I once installed Windows 98 again as a VPC just to replay Riven ;)

@Willardorwud did you installed Mod Tool from Steam? Or from another site? I want to try it now that I've migrated to win10.

If you're looking for a download link, this site still seems to provide a download: moddb.com
