Bitter funny

Post by McNistor » 25 Mar 2012, 00:20

Just thought it's funny, nothing else to say... :)
Except maybe, it's not the only alphabetical screw-up in that section, but one cannot help adding this one on the list of organisations/companies that ignore/disregard SI. It's most probably not intentional, but as I said, one cannot... :))

So, what happened between 17th and 28th June 2010? Hummmm, strange strange... :-?

P.S. I spent more time on this than i care to admit... Damn you, McNistor :))

@bottleofram :))

@EricTRocks no, I don't think so. If it was like that we should see a little more "noise" but it keeps as it is (or as shown in bottleofram's pics) for long periods of time.

I can ask Raf (The_Jaco, cgtalk moderator) tomorrow at work as he's my boss and see if he knows how it is listed.

Although I do love a good conspiracy theory, this would seem to be just a combination of user activity and the fact that the actual order isn't changed all that often, probably only a few times per year (explaining why it stays more or less the same for longer periods of time). Originally it probably was based on the alphabet, but they must have dropped that in favor of a new scheme. User activity hasn't been high on the Softimage forum of CGTalk for quite a while now & this simply reflects that, I would guess. But as with any conspiracy theory, I could be wrong. "Trust no one".

You should have seen this one coming but... Are you sure the user activity isn't being generated by the way its been arranged? :ymsmug: No, i think its safe to say both are false.

However, im having fun, so here we go... Exhibit C, vBulletin regular forum manager:

The ordering is done as a combination of display order and an order of creation. Display order number is given a priority. For a forum to appear after those created at a later date, it would have to be market with a bigger number.

Presumably, Softimage was marked with a same number as other Autodesk products on June 17th, but that had to change a week later for the new arrangement to take place.

I think i might be on to something here, guys...

For those who waiting for SI release, site full of cg art. Not in English, but picture don't need translation...
Somehow it's related to CG Talk, a lot of pics from this this site appeared later as awarded on CG Society. Also great resource for any kind of conspiracy theory :)

I think you've got it all wrong: this is just what we typically do,
those pesky new releases are just a distraction...

Man the conspiracy runs deep! You sure you want to know? ;P

He said it was random and not done on purpose. The forum name changed when AD bought Softimage and it kept its original position, then was moved to be alphabetic, then got reordered for some other reason. There is truly no conspiracy.
