Use mocap for character animation or not?

Post by curly » 06 Jun 2012, 16:51

Hi,

Does it make sense to use mocap for cartoon style character animation?
Some people say that mocap requires to much cleanup, you can't do pose to pose animation, quadriped, your terrain of your mocap set has to be the same (hills, obstacles etc...) as your virtual terrain etc...

I was asking myself would it make sense to have something like animazoo gypsy (a mechanical torso mocap suit) that only records rotation and no scene position or is it better to just animate one walk cycle and retime or adjust with an animation layer the animation.

In short what is the fastest way or the most efficient way to do cartoon style character animation?

Thanks for reading this post.

it is your personal choice. Mo-cap would be a good idea to sketch the motions and you can edit them further to achieve believable results but I wouldn't prefer using mo-cap for cartoon character at all. BTW I am not an animator but did some projects back then and there are tons of great animator guys out there and they can give you some lovely answers:)
