Is there anyone getting rid of a license of softimage XSI 2015? I am currently licensed in 7, but my dongle... I worry, is failing occasionally. If it were possible to buy it off someone (and if it would work of course) I would be interested. Located in Canada. Not sure if there is anything I can do.

You - might - get a SI license when starting a Maya or Max subscription, if you're still lucky enough to get one from AD somehow.

Reselling of a software license is tricky at best with all the EULA's, local laws and such. I can recall a lengthy trial in the EU court about this, as some of the US rules regarding ownership of software don't apply in the EU.
And I think most of us will hold on to SI as long as possible ;)

I wish some companies would sell used Softimage license. I would trade my Modo for it easily. :P

anyone know if this is real?

super expensive for a subscription price. but, if it gets me a full softimage 2015..might be worth it.

sigh.

I really hate having tojump through hoops thanks to autodesk. they really should go the adobe route, and just offer it for free like they do with audition 3.0

Doesnt look right. Not sure if we have people from Autodesk still that might have an input on this.

I usually search for used Softimage licenses. Not that I would have the money to pay up-right, but never found one as well.

I saw this related story the other day, a guy that's been hanging on to his 32-bit mac copy of Hash Animation Master to make his animated shorts, by fear of having to learn something else.

now he's rendering real-time.

Animation Master WAS what I was using, before I decided to try softimage, because it looked easier, like Max, to learn and figure out :).

But that was back in 2005/6 when I had A LOT more patience...

Even today, which software was as capable as Softimage and all around? Maybe Max? Houdini needs to improve in usability and Maya is a problem of its own.

So four years later and there still isn’t a proper substitute.

trying a few more searches hoping to get lucky.

I DID find this.

never heard of them before...so i doubt it's reliable. but the price is tempting to finally get a full 2015 version.

You'd have to check with AD before spending your money there.
Problem is: while someone can sell you a copy of the software, you'd still need to register it with Autodesk to get your license.
And I don't know if their "license server"-system is still active...

If it wasn't clear, the point was that the guy (who is also working on a fan film) has been stuck in the mindset that he couldn't work on anything other than Hash Animation, but he was forced to look elsewhere and now he's many times more productive on the freeware Blender and he's no longer afraid of support getting dropped.

I understood.

I just don't have the patience to learn something new these days. between new nephew, and just getting older. it took me ten years to get justt his far on softimage.

This is my problem as well. I've invested a lot of time and energy into learning XSI and now I'm feeling too old to start anew...
And the fact that I cannot afford current pricing schemes and abhor renting software doesn't help either... ;)

yeah. Renting ONLY Makes sense if it's affordable, AND worth getting something new each year. other than that, it's just a major rip off. sigh.

At least Blender is making good strides. I was able to get Modo for a cheap price and I’ve been upgrading. Not perfect yet but a fun software nonetheless. But I miss Softimage.
