Read about Gaffer ;-) http://www.gafferhq.org That's Open Source too.
Well how about that! I do recall but keep forgetting about Gaffer! A good potential framework to also build off! Nice.

Guys, I really appreciate your initiative towards Blender and other open source software, but please stick to SI, and to the specific questions I asked.

I fully realize that it takes more than just devs to create a particular piece of software, but that is a given. My questions are specific for a reason. If any of you know of programmers, or developers who worked on Si in the past, or SI artists that are also devs, please point them to this thread.

Thank you.

It would be great if Autodesk just putted Softimage on the Appstore like Composite and Matchmover. Such a great software, fun to play with.

Heck, they said that they'll reinvest time with Mudbox. Screw Mudbox, invest in Softimage, even if just to keep it alive. :)

By the way, I almost bought this on ebay for museum type of effects.

And there's even those great DVD for training ...

5 pounds ... so cheap.

I still have the same set under the desk, paid a bit more at the time though... ;)

All the links to the official training can be found here on the forum, and on YouTube, just in case you didn't know.

I think Autodesk doesn't have any interest in resurrecting Softimage, just the opposite. All the action that they took makes me believe that they saw Softimage as a threat to their business and just wanted to kill it as soon as they could.

Well, in my opinion and sight of view. AD get the most money from big studios. But in big studios you didn't have any change to be creative in 3D production. Anything is already pre defined, the set, the models are sculpted with stuff and painted with real color, than it will be scanned and corrected. That mean at all in big studio you already have anything together. You just need to move some bones and that's it. AD named the suite "Creative" - yeah shit. Freelancers or hobby-st (like me) didn't have that much detailed script (or none), they need to play with the values while the animation is running to find the best. They didn't have any motor or 3d person super duper scan technology that do anything for you. Maya is the hell on earth to be creative and find the best without scripts, plans, super duper technology. The point is, big studios pay much more than freelancers ... and XSI is in big studios not really welcome, because of the total freeness of your creative ...

The most point i hate AD is the impossibility to buy a single user license (not rental) XSI 2015 anymore. I would instant pay, even i am hobbist. I own 2012 and i see no way for me to pay every year 2000 euro for a software i do not use (Maya) just to use XSI. What if i didn't use it for 2 years and i just what open one model. Than i am fucked, until i pay either 2000 euro per year or 400 euro per month just to open this model. This is for me impossible, and i guess for the most freelancers too. Rental is the dead for these peoples. This is why many peoples switch to C3D, Modo, Houdini and so on. But AD didn't care about these peoples. Well AD makes big money with CAD, that means they shot 4% revenue into sky, and they don't care about. But this kills many freelancers and even hobbist. Some go to blender, but seriously, blender has incredible and awesome features, but at all blender has an unusable UI and some wired workflows.

My biggest wish to AD

AD : Provide a permanent network license of the latest XSI 2015 for 2000 euro without rental, without subscription, with very limited guarantee. That would be great.

my 5 cent
