Dynamics disabled when importing a dynamic rig as model.

Post by Filmguy » 20 Sep 2013, 16:34

Hi guys.
Trying to import a dog model with a dynamic tail and ears into a new scene as a reference model (emdl).
I've exported everything as a model and even saved the tail settings as a preset.
Weather I bring it in as a Model or Reference model the dynamics are just disabled.

The setting are still there but nothing happens. Even "mute dynamics" isn't ticked.

Is it a setting in the scene maybe?

If the dynamics are created using the built in dynamic tail tool, you need to first put all objects you're using for the tail generation in a model, THEN generate the dynamic tail. They use action clips for part of the setup and if you don't put the objects in the model first, when you do, the actions are left behind. Even if you put the actions into the correct model after the fact, it's still broken (last time I checked, a few years ago).

So yeah, make the curve, put into model, then create the tail. Export model and it should be OK... if I remember correctly.

Fantastic. Thanks so much. I was banging my head against a wall for a while. This means re-rigging but I would rather have it work.

Thank You again.

I stopped using Soft's buit-in tail system.. it's pretty crap..
I use Helge's Spring Op instead, it's much more controllable and predictable..

There's a video explaining how to work with it, and a link to download the addon (which works fine here on 2013 sp1)

I recommend MT_Spring as well. Super slick.

Thanks Guys. Would there be a working link for it? The one of Softimage blog keeps timing out.

Search for it at rray.de. After you've found it, look for the link to the "local backup".
Stay safe, sane & healthy!
