My softimage theme for Blender 2.7 (2.8 will be available soon too)
Hi! I really loved Softimage's interface and I've decided to try to emulate it inside blender. Here's what it looks like so far. If people like it I'll also change fonts and other minor elements to get as close as possible to the real thing.
Here's the download link, it comes with an icon I made for convenience but I plan on releasing a way better looking on for the next theme update.

Is this just the UI, or are you doing a rework of the mouse and shortcuts as well?
Looks great so far!

No, someone is already working on a full blender to softimage conversion. I'm just working on the theme, probably will release a new version this week or the next.

Here's a preview of the V2 theme!
Many colors have been changed/improved so far, including the color of the joints. It will be available in a few days.

Looking nice.
Just watched the latest Blender Developers video on the work on 2.8 beta.
I don't know, but some stuff they just don't get, regarding workflow and ease of use.
Yes, Blender is looking a lot better regarding UI, and had some really needed workflow improvements. But it still has some really silly and annoying things in there, often going back years and people asking to have it fixed.
I'm pretty sure v.2.8 will bring in some new users, but it still needs some serious work to get certain areas of the application up to par with the existing DCC applications out there.
It would be nice if you could have the UI switcher buttons from the SI UI in the blender one. So one can quickly switch between several UI setups by clicking a button, instead of the dropdown menu

Yep it's still pretty wonky in some aspects. The biggest offender for me is the viewport performance. Absolutely horrendous. I only use blender for simpler stuff but for a full project I would not trust it yet.
Re: My softimage theme for Blender 2.7 (2.8 will be available soon too)
i was just tweaking blender 2.8 to make it similar to softimage, and i worked a bit on the mesh editing, in explicit way to the way we use manipulators. I reach a good compromise. but unfortunately 2.8 still to beta and some essential stuff are missing again.
but the interdace is quite better. Is just missing center like you told and some important way to edit. But honestly , i will be not impossible reach a "similar "inteface that make the workflow similar and fast as SI.
The missing of the schematic is a tragic stuff (is really important) plus some other concepts.. but who know...
In some post i read the convert blender to a softimage WAY TO WORK was to hard. I don't think so. I more near that we imagine.

Anyone that can program, and is willing to push certain areas in Blender to more user friendly (read SI) workflow, be so kind to contact the Blender Institute.
There's still so much areas that need some cleanup, or just that slight nudge to get it to work more logical. Some of it is small stuff, like a proper project manager, or filling collections via wildcard.
So, if you're interested, please go ahead.
