ICE Mograph Workshop: Cloners
Re: ICE Mograph Workshop: Cloners
Updated the "Create Point Array Compound" with Grid Array. Diferently then Cinema 4d I kept the step mode for both Linear and Grid, I think it is better this way since both modes have very similar control. Other changes include:
*PPG Logic will change values to keep the look when switching Step Mode on/off;
*Starting Point and End Point are color coded.
Here are the compounds:

Re: ICE Mograph Workshop: Cloners
Thanks!!! Very usefull work
Re: ICE Mograph Workshop: Cloners
will be nice to create this effects for create copies from polygon mesh for clone geometry mesh.
Re: ICE Mograph Workshop: Cloners
Here is my attempt. It is still WIP. At the moment there are 3 compounds: Linear, Radial and Grid Cloner.
This short video will explain usage.

PS Thanks Chris_TC for helpful tip about creating point cloud grid.

Ramon: Thanks for testing and posting your ideas Do you mean instancing geometry only or making it a real mesh trough ICE Modeling. I think both suggestions are really valid, Cris' compound already does the first one, and the seccond should not be hard to do with the default ICE Modeling compounds.
SreckoM: Cool take on it! Controls look really straight forward. I also like the flower thingy, it is a polar coordinates thing right? Will download your compound and check it out!

Re: ICE Mograph Workshop: Cloners
Geez the radial cloner looks, to me, a lot more complex then the other ones. Could just copy parts of other compounds, but it feels really bad not understanding them... gonna have a lot of wikipedia reading and kahn academy classes this week + ICE experimentations =p

Re: ICE Mograph Workshop: Cloners
intense learning... many wikipedia, cmiVFX ICE videos and kahn academy look up to able to workout Radial thingy, but here it is:
http://vimeo.com/32350399
Compound still a mess though, so for now I'm going to stop moving forward, clean stuff up and then share it.
While writing Radial thingy I re-wrote a lot of stuff and as a side-product I got this IDs per Axis (Dimension). So I'm able to do stepper effects on a per axis basis, instead of the whole thing like you would in C4D. I actually think this is pretty neat
Here is a list of how things are at the moment:
Feature list:
*Point generators are isolated from eachother;
*Linear, 3d Grid and Radial/Helix point generators;
*End point and step like progression;
*PPG Logic keeps look when changing inbetween endpoint and step like progression;
*Linear stepper effects per dimension;
*Harmonic stepper effects per dimension.
Known limitations:
*Radial generator does not support Starting point;
*Radial generator Step mode feels awkward;
*Radial generator's compound looks like spaghetti
*Everything is poorly documented.
To-Do list:
*Streamlined init options;
*Streamlined stepper options.

Re: ICE Mograph Workshop: Cloners
Wow, I foresee an upcoming Exocortex Cloners... (sorry, I couldn't resist)
No, seriously, impressive work so far...

Re: ICE Mograph Workshop: Cloners
It would be nice if something useful emerged out of this community threads indeed.
It is good experimentation and fun for now
Got to clean the compound, still not as documented as it should be, here it is for download:
http://gustavoeb.com.br/blog/wp-content ... s_v0.3.zip
Compouns included:
* Cloner Root (for separating diferent point generations);
* Create Point Array (for generating points);
* Linear Stepper (generates scalar value from 0-1 dependent on chosen axis);
* Harmonic Stepper (generates SIN function on chosen axis);
Known limitations:
*Everything is poorly documented;
*Look is not kept when switching between Step and End Point mode if Control Objects are used;
*Look is not kept when switching between Step and End Point mode in Radial generator;
To-Do list:
*Harmonic Steppers needs animation parameter;
*Control Objects should be created automagically;
*Streamlined init options;
*Streamlined stepper options;
*Geometry and Curve generation should follow;

Very interesting indeed... I anxiously await further explanation. ;)

Re: ICE Mograph Workshop: Cloners
you mean like usage or innerworking?
still got to make it more "usable" before posting something like a tutorial, as it is not working as intended, for now...

Re: ICE Mograph Workshop: Cloners
Hope this fits the bill
Anyways added and polished this a bunch... Of course there is a huge amount of stuff to tackle still.
It is a neatly packed .xsiaddon now, and its got a little menu button to create the basic ICE tree... I think other menus should be added for the most common Modifiers.
http://gustavoeb.com.br/blog/wp-content ... s.xsiaddon
(feels good to see stuff of the last to-do list was actually done!)
Compouns included:
* Instancer Root (for separating diferent point generations);
* Linear, Grid, Radial Arrays;
* Modifiers and Modulators:
*Linear Stepper
*Harmonic Stepper
*By Object
*Random
Known limitations:
*Look is not kept when switching between Step and End Point mode if Control Objects are used;
*Rotations are unwantedly flipping.
To-Do list:
*Control Objects should be created automagically;
*Geometry and Curve generation should follow;

Re: ICE Mograph Workshop: Cloners
Great update. Thanks!
Have it generate instance positions from mesh point positions or poly positions?
