Great news. Good to see another valuable project survived the alleged, apparent problems at StudioNEST... :-bd

Did you set your "PYTHONPATH" correctly so GEAR can find its libraries?

To not repeat this unnecessarily:
the procedure is described on page 6 of the gear_doc.pdf
under "II. INSTALLATION" > "b. Install GEAR’s Python libraries"...

I cant get it to work

# ERROR : Traceback (most recent call last):
# File "<Script Block >", line 1, in <module>
# import gear
# ImportError: No module named gear
# - [line 1]

I installed Python as said in XSI - Wiki

Then all the env var paths for c:\python and modules.

When i run:

import gear
gear.logInfos()
##
# GEAR version : [1, 0, 0]

it gives me the error....

Im doing something wrong im sure...

First thing you could try is an ordinary restart of Softimage before running the test...
(I even read one comment on the XSIBase where it was fixed
after rebooting the computer, but that's more of a last measure...)
If that doesn't work, please share the exact content of your PYTHONPATH environment variable
and the exact path to the modules folder
as it looks as if there's still something wrong there.
;)

BTW - What version of Softimage are you using?

First of all: if you're using Python for Softimage only, you don't need the Python 3 installation, as Softimage only works with the Python 2.6... Make sure that the scripting language in the "Scripting Preferences" is set to the correct Python. (And you could use the "internal" Python (the one Softimage installs "embedded" in Softimage), although I can't recall if that gets installed automatically)
Secondly: the only thing I can think of at the moment (but it's still early for me... (-| ~o) ) is that you may be pointing your PYTHONPATH to the wrong folder: it must be pointing to the "modules" folder, not to the "gear" folder that lies within it. To : the folder structure is "modules/gear", but you must point the PYTHONPATH to "modules", not to "gear"...
However, if this isn't it: don't despair! We'll get there somehow... :ymhug:

Wicked!! Good to see this is still moving forward :)

Just two quick questions:
- Can we just replace the current files with the new ones?
- And are the demoscenes updated as well?

cheers,

OK Guys, I did it, the problem was that I had PYTHONPATH defined on setenv.bat with the wrong path, and it was conflicting with the one on Windows System Set Env.

Tks !!! :-bd
