03/29/12 Autodesk Virtual Event

Post by Hirazi Blue » 09 Mar 2012, 20:46

Over at other forums there is some buzz surrounding this Autodesk Virtual Event on the 29th of March, implying that this might be the time and the virtual place where AD will announce their new product line up. This is as of yet, however, unconfirmed ("what else is new?"). You can register now, although I can't find any indication of the time the individual events will take place (so I'm guessing it will be quite US-centric).

Interesting that AMD is their strategic partner now.

Yeah, most people I know instead use intel and nvidia products.

Just wondering if Nvidia intentionally screwing content creation customers with their castrated opengl performance on GForce cards has anything to do with it. Probably not but interesting anyway. Glad so see ATI getting in on it. That's the only thing that might change Nvidia's perspective.

Autodesk works with both Nvidia and AMD.

Awe Bellsey, always the diplomat. You should work for the UN :)

Here I'm trying to start a spirited flaming of Nvidia's current policies and you put out the fire before it has a chance to explode.

No no, he's not putting out the fire, he said that they work with both NVidia and AMD, so they don't just like Quadros but Fire GLs too.

Lets not derail this thread so early on, when there is still the question what to make of this virtual event and why there isn't any information posted on the time the event will take place (which seems a bit strange for an international company like Autodesk).

If you register for the event, the confirmation e-mail message includes this info:

Date: March 29, 2012
Time: 9:00 a.m. PT to 1:00 p.m. PT

Looking at the session descriptions and speakers, I doubt that this is where they will announce new products.

Thanks for this info, Stephen! ;)
Still somewhat strange that they don't mention the times before registering...

Why does Autodesk make such a mystery out of the date of the announcement?
Will it or won't it be at the aforementioned Virtual Event?
(And if not, when will it actually be?)

Too risky to publicly commit to a date when so many things need to happen at the same time? Pure guess, but it does sound like one of those things that might be a lot harder to manage than you would think.

True, although Autodesk M&E seemed to have been perfectly capable to commit to the GDC as the venue/date to announce their new product line in the recent past & this was no "secret" back then either, IIRC...

And they said it was a coincidence for things to line up that way. Also, why push M&E when they have gamewere to promote?
