Forgive me if my question sounds dumb (I'm no simulation person), but wasn't always easier to simulate goo or jelly (high viscosity liquids) than non-viscous un-compressible liquids like water?
If that is so, then how would those two simulation videos would constitute something amazing (or at least worthy of showing as something new/better) in 2014? I'm genuinely interested in an answer as I'm probably missing something, I'm not trying to put down Realflow here.

While i am no expert i worked with fluid simulation. The first problem problem is the control. With water you get away with variations between simulations, with jelly you can't.

Then as you can see the jelly has to slow to get stick so the limits are with itself , has you can see in the video below the jelly looks like that it dry and maintain position after a certain time. While water it has no limit except other objects.

Don't know if you guys have seen this ... but PhoenixFD looks very much amazing as a fluid simulation tool. And I think that it's smoke and fire are better than FumeFX.

Well yeah Phoenix FD looks nice. To bad they chose Max and Maya only.
