Isn't the same for Maya, Houdini and Cinema 4D? All date the same time creation.

nope, look at houdini or xsi and how "modern" feel the core, i mean, how you can interract with things, windows etc just 100% different feeling

Softimage I knew .. Houdini I wasn't sure.

But even if Maya is around, I guess Max can be to. In any case, Max has more solid performance than C4D for large scenes. I don't know, there's talk of a lots of improvements on 3ds Max. Will have to check it. At least there's seems to be more development going on.

I think most users don't care how you interract with things, windows etc.

yeahh most users even don't know how much time they loose. But a fact is how many people is using max sixteen hour a day without insulting it ??? I've somes seated around me... We have a time consuming job, don't let a poor software drain your brain, some things can't change.

I understand people don't like Max ... but I think for UI it's better still than Maya. There's some things that needed to be fixed, like the ribbon or the fact that the command/modifier panel can't be re-sized.

In any case, as of now, nothing compares with Softimage imho. C4D gets close, but they need to fix some things as well. As much as MoGraph is cool, their system for particles is even worst than Max and the material system too.

Max's UI looks ok for me, but latest „improvements” are coded by amateurs or something.

In Win 8 Max opens with ugly white border around, you need to minimize than maximize to get rid of it.

Scene explorer new window opens at some strange position ignoring default settings AND unable to move, you need to close it, open again (it shows at 0,0), move to place and only then you start working with it!

Alt navigation is useless, I had to make custom app for xsi like navigation.

Also, using .NET for high performance 3D application, it just a shame. It's like if Pixar used cheap turbosquid character models for newest animation movie. lol

And that's why I'm taking a second look at Modo and very hopeful of what Houdini v14 will bring to the table.

Max was good until v8 sp3, then it become heavy, ugly, slow, unstable, uses huge amount of memory for doing simple small tasks, buggy(much more than before) and i can't understand why they changed default object/material selection dialogue window with that slow/ugly .NET windows!!

well, i don't understand how... How can you find it ok when to select object in a list the opened window lock your UI entirely, just look like the internet Ads windows everyone wants to shut down. Max is full of this

By look I mean overall design, not interaction. It's kinda dated and old school, but not unbearable. At least property window does not occupy half of my screen unlike Maya :>

BTW, Find by name is not needed, there is scene explorer.

I agree with this. The design is okay, the interaction is not. This should be worked on a LOT. Max has become very heavy. Hell ... when you open the material editor, you see Max rendering the icons for the materials. That's just crazy, but I think it was done because they are trying to make it faster, I don't know. Anyway ... I would love Max to be more faster and light like Maya.
