is there a way to key frame a latice that is driving the deformation of geomitry below it?

If you mean keyframing the individual points of a lattice, then this isn't possible AFAIK...
You'd have to resort to shape animation, I'm afraid... :(

Depending on the level of control you need, you could try to set up clusters (with center) on parts of the lattice, and animate those instead.

Thanks for the replys guys.
It's a method I used to use all the time in max...I just assumed it worked in xsi without testing.
Both your solutions will work fine ill do some tests to see which is best.

Thanks again.

Don't forget you can also envelope the lattice with nulls or other objects. I like this method because it requires fewer steps than some of the others since you can envelope the nulls in one go AND you can change the levels of subdivisions on the lattice and the envelope will update...but I might be missing a few things/problems/issues with this method!

BTW- If you don't use a script to distribute the nulls, it's always faster to hide all your other geo, duplicate the null X amount of times, and then just grab and snap the nulls to the lattice points. I'm sure you figured that out, but I thought I'd just throw that in there...
