Pre-selection highlighting (animation/rigging)

Post by fjg » 18 Aug 2011, 21:44

Just saw this is awesome tool for modeling QuickInset (but didn't want to derail that thread with something sort of off topic)

I was wondering if the pre-selection part of this would be possible in Softimage as a property one could assign to an animation control (object or cluster).
Pre-selection highlighting as been used in modeling for a long time, but it has been slow to move over to rigs/animation. This would make rigs much cleaner and easier to interact with - no more wires. It makes selecting fingers and other small controls a breeze.

DAZ Studio 4 implements this quite well using some sort of cluster derived from skinning. (the full body IK is a bit klunky, but I'm just interested in the selection part of the vid). Skip to 1:35, where he starts posing.

I don't have the skill to code something like this (If i did I'd have already posted here...), but maybe someone else can be inspired - or has anyone seen a plug in that can do something like this?

Edit: I guess this could be in the rigging section...
Moderator edit: and so it is!!! Magic? :D - HB

I would even go in armature™ direction of Messiah, although I never used them I admit, judging by videos and demos, they are powerful.
Perhaps update a transform setup property, and give more options such as highlighting and customizing mouse buttons for specific operations ( move, scale, rotate) etc.
So it would be like the tweak tool for bones and objects.

Exactly! (Thanks - I forgot to mention that in the first post)
