Ice scattering shading

Post by Maximus » 18 Sep 2011, 18:50

Hey guys, being sunday and pouring outside, i had the idea time ago to repro an ice scattering shading effect, so here is my result and wanted some feedback on what you might think how it looks? (sorry for the stupid model!)

Image

i'm using mia material, with displacement + bump, and diffusion for scattering

let me know what you think please!

Looks really nice.... but I am still missing the volumetric ICE feeling...
BTW do you have any ideas regarding my post on Lagoa Multi physics question? PLEASE
^:)^

Well what I see is a really good head start I mean great!
But I think you may still be able to push it with the SSS material... I feel that the lighting is making it look rather flat.

hm i think i need to lower the intensity of the lights, they are burning a bit too much
thanks for feedback! :)

Thanks Chris!

i think this is a bit better, problem is the scattering is highly dependant on lights so i need to find a better looking light setup.
But i guess the shader is almost good, i have to test it in different scenario wich i'll do
here is a more soft light setup render

thanks!

hm fixed a bit the shading, i like now the scattering, i guess i have to work more on the actual surface incidence/bump
here is another test

I like the old one x_x , it looks more realistic.
