Draw Bones Inside Mesh

Post by iamVFX » 04 May 2012, 01:15

Quick one-day prototype. Inspired by Cesar Saez’s Bone Sketching tool. Select desired mesh and click on Animate -> Skeleton -> Draw Bones Inside Mesh menu. You can quickly choose prefix name and color for the chain which will be drawn. Here is an example video, it's slightly speeded up, the total set up time was 5 minutes:

looks great, while its not necessary it looks like a great custom tool sdk project too. just for better visualization.

Thanks, Steve, I appreciate that! But actually there is no greatness in stuff that I'm doing now, since I'm not trying to do them complicated

Hmmmm - I've been trying to get this to work with 2013 and 2012 and got the same error. I would enter the pickPosition session and the position i picked would not be where the bone or root ended up. In some cases, it would be outside the mesh and come back to the origin, in other cases it would twist back on itself.

:((

The code and compound are open, you or someone can fix it or make own based on it.

I don't have any desire make stuff for softimage anymore, sorry.

May I ask why?

Is it a personal thing, is the SDK too limited, are we too obnoxious... ;)

Would like to hear your reason for this decision.

And thanks for all the fish, also, obviously...

I tried it out for a few hours, reading the code and trying things out but I came to the conclusion that it isnt worth my time to continue. It works - barely - except if your rig is at a wrong scale or you click in the wrong spot. I have no idea how you got such smooth results in your video because Ive tried it on a few setups with the same results.
