Clarisse is more a competitor to relight from bakery or foundrys katana, not softimage.

I agree.
A lot will no doubt depend on what they mean by their ominous statement "expect 3 to 4 digit number prices"
But more importantly, from their recent press release:
Makes me wonder what goodies are still to come. Will there eventually be a Clarisse ÜberApp that lets you model, rig and everything else too. Is there still hope for a new true "generalist package"?

(Quoted from here)Clarisse™ iFX™, the first member of its Clarisse's high-end 3D animation software product family designed for professional CG artists. {my highlight - HB}

Hah i'm suddenly reminded of "Unlimited Detail" http://unlimiteddetailtechnology.com/ remember that?
It should've "changed the whole industry" by now...
Not saying this is as mad as that though i was just reminded, i like the idea of compostiting and shading at the same time but i'm very dubious of these billion of polygon claims...
Btw i don't see any alpha to try out, would love to be proven wrong! ;)

Hmm, some would consider that a grave insult to the folks at Isotropix...Kerro Perro wrote:Hah i'm suddenly reminded of "Unlimited Detail" http://unlimiteddetailtechnology.com/ remember that?

They've stated themselves they are currently in "private beta", but we should expect to hear from them soon...
;)Clarisse iFX is currently being privately beta tested by professional CG artists and is scheduled for public release in Quarter 2 of 2012.

Looks so much like After Effects it makes me want to vomit. After effects is easily one of the worst user interfaces I've ever used.

Quarter 2 of 2012 ends in 4 days. I tend to measure companies by how they keep their promises.Hirazi Blue wrote:Hmm, some would consider that a grave insult to the folks at Isotropix...Kerro Perro wrote:Hah i'm suddenly reminded of "Unlimited Detail" http://unlimiteddetailtechnology.com/ remember that?

Personally I wouldn't be THAT finicky. ;)Lord Futzi Voldemort wrote:Quarter 2 of 2012 ends in 4 days. I tend to measure companies by how they keep their promises.
Initial release dates of completely new products do have a tendency to be postponed (slightly?). If I read it correctly, this even was a problem with Sumatra AKA XSI 1.0 back in the day. I'd start to get annoyed once Quarter 3 has come and gone without either a release or a comprehensive statement as to what went wrong...

Re: Soon: Isotropix Clarisse?
Isotropix released a new Tech Preview on YouTube, FXGuide did an article on Clarisse
and Isotropix tweeted the not so helpful message
Isotropix apparently will be "on the floor" and holding a Tech Talk
(on the 8th of August, | 3:45-4:40 pm - "Introducing Artistically Correct Rendering") at this year's Siggraph.
One can only assume (hope?) something is about to happen.
And yes, technically they're a few days late already ;)

Apparently Siggraph 2012 will see the unveiling of Isotropix Clarisse. (Source)

I am looking foward to seeing what this product can do (and some pricing too). Autodesk really needs a kick to the pants.

Did anyone visit the Isotropix people at Siggraph, I haven't heard a peep about it... anywhere.

If they deliver on this level of features, I have two questions:
* How much does it cost?

Re: Soon: Isotropix Clarisse?
Quite impressive and I'm trying to get them to come up and give onsite demo @ Nickelodeon. I wonder how it performs on a less godly (16 core) machine.
They are from France and currently don't have N. American rep/distributor. Due to siggraph response, they were considering staying another week in socal and visit up north.
$3500 was a bit more than I was expecting, though.

Re: Soon: Isotropix Clarisse?
Is $3500 the official number from SIGGRAPH? Did they talk render nodes, etc.?
It's very interesting for sure, but they need to really get a demo version out so people can get their hands on it. Fancy videos are one thing, but actually testing it out is another.

Re: Soon: Isotropix Clarisse?
That's what they told me.
Includes 2 rendernodes. Additional nodes = $1000

Re: Soon: Isotropix Clarisse?
Did you get a chance to see their compositor?
The system looks very interesting, but if it only can do 3D and can't handle external footage, it's a little less interesting. Basically I could see it as a replacement for Nuke/Fusion, which would make the price a little easier to swallow.
Thanks for the info!
