It's official... they have reneged on their promise to give free live update of our choice and are in fact charging for it.

Last time they pulled their promise their forum was a buzz with upset users. Removing their forum has taken that headache away from them.

What a piss poor company...

For me this product seems to be quiet interesting for softimage, because MR is really a pain about speed rendering.

Hope Randomcontrol will follow their consumers

So, I had never heard about this one. GPU accelerated + Passes :-bd

So, has anyone used it before? The price is definately tempting.

What happen with this renderer when you exceed the amount of memory allowed for GPU ? Is this GPU automatically disabled ?

From the docs..
Arion, unlike other GPU rendering solutions, is not limited by the memory available to your GPUs. You can benefit from GPU acceleration as long as your data fits the GPU RAM. But even when your data is too large, you can still get your rendering job done by switching to Arion's CPU core.

Octane is $99. Arion is $595.

So I guess that extra $500 is for the SI integration?

Man, they better REALLY impress with that SI LIVE plugin.

I would advice a lot of caution towards this company.
I bought Fryrender back in the time when it was in beta and these guys are really bad mojo.

In principle, the renderer is/was very good.

But they broke too many promises, didn't update the normal XSI plugin for years, removed very helpful features from the software without a good reason instead of adding more etc.
You can't sell your license and while I'm guessing the people involved are not "bad" on purpose, I don't want to have to do with them ever again if I can help it.
Critical threads in their forum are shot down, Questions for release dates only get "it's done when it's done" and more often than not this means "never". Very reasonable questions or feature requests get completely unnecessary defensive or even offensive replies from their zealous beta team or developers.
If something doesn't work as advertised - bad for you.

So prepare to feel ripped off and be left with a non-working pile of code sooner or later.
Or pay again for stuff you were promised for free.
Or support for your platform being dropped without warning.

Random Control.
They really live up to their name.

Make very very sure it does what you need already if you decide to buy into this ...

Cheers ;-)

Tom

Just some news I received from RandomControl today :

The development of XSI LIVE was halted some time ago until we're done with the rest of products, which, commercially speaking, have more importance right now.
I expect XSI LIVE to be resumed and hopefully released later on this year, between Autumn and Winter.

Cheers
