Is here a way to force more ram usage?

Post by calmasacow » 06 Nov 2009, 18:30

I'm rendering on a machine that has 16GB of ram on it. and when I render XSI is using about 1.45 GB. I have can here the HDD grinding pretty regularly. Is there somewhere I can go in a turn the ram usage up to say 6-8GB?

check out mental ray rendering settings in "Optimization".
You probably have enabled "Memory limit (mental ray)".
just unchek it.

softimage should use all ram available for you...You can try to disable windows swap file or set it to v. low value like 20mb and turn on automatic conversion of textures to map format

yeah just seems like MR is still optimized mainly for the older 32 bit environments where tries to use as little ram as possible. It seems like it tries to keep things under 2GB
