Curve Retopo Tool
a prototype of curve based retopo tool, it's rough because user should make some adjustments
since it's not that precise but it does what it says [..] Requirements: Tested on Softimage 2012 SP1 x64 and Softimage 2013 x64. Installation: 1. Drag-n-drop *.xsiaddon file into the viewport, refresh the compounds list or restart
Softimage 2. Install Byungchul Kang's CnD_NormalizedCurve addon Usage: Select the mesh, go to View -> Toolbars -> Retopo Tools, click on "Initialize" button
and enable Sketch curve tool (Model -> Curve -> Sketch)

Re: Retopo Tools
Seems like a great tool, thanks for sharing.
But I got a lot of double edges. Is there a rule when drawing to avoid linking opposite edges when drawing parallel lines?
Also it would be very useful if each line had its own width setting and if you could adjust it backwards.

Nope, not yetaio wrote:Seems like a great tool
That's weird behaviour, I never got results with double edges until I draw the curves on top of existing polygons. Can you record a video? I'm curious to fix thatBut I got a lot of double edges. Is there a rule when drawing to avoid linking opposite edges when drawing parallel lines?
It has, they're just compound parameters, open up an object stack and dive into one of the ice trees. Ok, it's tedious to do so for each curve, so I'll make user friendly solution for that on this weekend. Also it would be very useful if each line had its own width setting and if you could adjust it backwards.
Re: Retopo Tools
Well i tried one more time and it seems fine now, maybe i played too much with it and broke something,
there's a slighty inconvenience, when you change the width after the first stroke (and i deleted the first splines too) the two values seems to have an effect at the same time :
But if you start over it's all right.

Re: Retopo Tools
I can already imagine it: i will make cool spaceship forms in Zbrush and use your compound to retopo easily, then slap your upcoming greeble compound on it to make it really rock, man it will be sweet!
Re: Retopo Tools
Can't wait on your tool! Tested already, but too buggy yet. Would be awesome, if it would work similar like "wrapit" for Max:

Yes, sorry, that's why it's placed on WIP thread, I'm currently figure out the more safe ways to weld boundary edges, and it seems I found oneQwesto wrote:Can't wait on your tool! Tested already, but too buggy yet.
Ah, you spoiled the next tool! And, by the way, both serve the different purposes, Curve Retopo tool was created because I was tired of making quad stripes with Add/Edit Polygon toolQwesto wrote:Would be awesome, if it would work similar like "wrapit" for Max:

Re: Retopo Tools
For welding edges, have you seen Chris gotzinger's ice compound on his vimeo page?

Re: Retopo Tools
OFC the draw curves tool is needed, when retopologizing for example a face. Hmmm I ask myself, when both tools are working (YES, it will take a longer time but..) if it might be possible to develope a mixture of both, which would re-arrange edge and faceloops, would be crazy

Tomorrow will do update, will try to make wrapit tool
Would like to make curve retopo tool more interactive, but since mouse position events available only for c++ part I don't give a
[ I'm tired to fight soft's "integration" of python, actually, so never again ]
